Colonel Agustin Allende in Red Dead Redemption

John Marston, an iconic protagonist across bothRed Dead Redemptiongames, is typically portrayed as a bastion of righteousness who seeks to redeem himself for his past misdeeds. However, there are times when players must question whether Marston is in the right throughout his journey, especially if players go berserk controlling him and carry out a wealth of irredeemable actions that simply can’t be justified.

6Helping Out The Army During The Mexican Revolution

For what it’s worth, John didn’t realize what the Mexican Revolution was about and just wanted to hunt down and kill Javier Escuella. He would’ve helped out pretty much anyone if it let him achieve his goals, which is why he didn’t think twice before helping out the Mexican army in exchange for some valuable information regarding Escuella.

However, this leads to a brutal moment where Marston and the rest of the army completely destroy the town of Tesoro Azul. He kills off all the rebels who hide out here before burning down the town to nothing, which was totally unnecessary. To make things even worse, the women here are abductedto supposedly fuel Colonel Allende’s perverted tastes, with Marston himself finally realizing that he was on the wrong side of history after all.

5Killing Innocents Just For The Sake Of It

While this is more player-dependent, the fact that players can whip out a gun and let loose makes it pretty easy to go on a warpath for the ages asplayers shoot down innocents without a care in the world. While the bounty system means that law enforcement will be hot on the heels of players soon after, that doesn’t make this act any less vile in the slightest.

Cleet in Red Dead Redemption 2

Many people find an odd sense of catharsis in sowing the seeds of chaos in the world ofRed Dead Redemption, but there’s no way to justify the act of shooting down innocent people just to let off some steam. Marston’s morality takes a huge hit if players decide to embark on this unnecessary bloodbath for no reason.

4Hanging A Helpless Cleet

After Arthur’s death, Marston decides to settle down with his family on a ranch, enjoying a new beginning in the process. However,it’s clear that the shadows of the past were still haunting him, with Sadie contacting John to help her exact revenge on Micah for tearing up the group and causing Arthur’s death.

In a bid to track down Micah, Marston and Sadie hunt down one of his lackeys, Cleet. In a bid to make him reveal’s Micah’s location, Sadie and Arthur decided to put him on the gallows and use the looming threat of hanging. This makes Cleet spill his guts, and players have the choice of either letting Cleet go or hanging him without a care in the world. While both choices lead to his death, there’s something chilling about Marston hanging someone and watching his life ebb away from his eyes.

3Hunting Down Peaceful Sasquatches To Extinction

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmareisone of the greatest DLCs in gaming history. Controlling Marston in an alternate take on the game’s events where zombies are real makes for a great time as players engage with many supernatural elements that wouldn’t exist in the base game.

Players get several new and unique tasks exclusive to this DLC, including a mission to hunt down sasquatches present all over the game world. However, it’s only after players reach the final sasquatch that they realize just how misguided their actions were. It turns out that Marston had single-handedly wiped out the population of peaceful sasquatches, with the last one begging to be put out of his misery so that he wouldn’t have to live through a lonely and depressing existence.

2Forcing A Woman Back Into An Unhappy Marriage

There aremany Strangers that players can help out inRed Dead Redemption. One of these missions leads players to interact with a man named Nathan Harling, a despicable human being who has vital information that players can get either by giving him $5 or bringing back his wife who had run away to escape this horrible man.

Suffice it to say, agreeing to bring his wife back is pretty messed up, especially since players have to essentially hogtie and transport her against her will. Keeping all of this in mind, spending $5 seems like nothing more than a pittance.

1Shooting Down His Old Friends Without A Second Thought

This is a subjective point since there’s no denying thatMarston had no reason to honor his commitmentsto the men who had left him to die. That being said, characters like Javier Escuella and Bill Williamson weren’t exactly the worst people on the planet, people that Marston had once considered his family.

What makes things even worse is that Edgar Ross and the Pinkertons reneged on this deal anyway, hunting down Marston after manipulating him to do his dirty deeds. This made Marston’s entire crusade worthless, which is a shame.
