The Game Awards 2020 is set to take place later tonight, revealing the game that will be given the coveted Game of the Year honor. Not only will plenty of awards be doled out this evening, butThe Game Awards 2020will also have plenty of new game announcements and world premiere trailers as well, with Capcom’sResident Evil 8expected to have a new trailer at the show.
As pointed out by AestheticGamer, who is known for their accurateResident Evilleaks, Capcom has typically aligned game sales with announcements. Right now,Resident Evil 7is available at a discount through Steam’s Game Awards Sale, but notResident Evil 2or3. This seems to suggest that an announcement of some kind involvingResident Evil 8is in store for The Game Awards 2020, likely a new trailer.

Then again, this could just be becauseResident Evil 8is nominated for an award at The Game Awards 2020. WhileResident Evil 8isn’t eligible for most of the awards (with it having yet to release and all), the game has been nominated for the Most Anticipated award alongside the likes ofElden Ring, theGod of Warsequel,Halo Infinite,Horizon Forbidden West, andThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
IfResident Evil 8is featured at The Game Awards beyond it being nominated for an award, it will be interesting to see if it gets a trailer or something more. Rumors have been swirling that aplayableResident Evil 8demois in the works, which would be possible now that the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles are available. Capcom has a long history of releasing demos forResident Evilgames prior to their launch, with these demos often announced at big gaming events like this, so maybe fans will get lucky.
Even if The Game Awards 2020 only has a newResident Evil 8trailer in store, though, that will likely be enough for many fans. TheResident Evil 8trailersthat have been shown so far have been fairly vague, leaving fans with many more questions than answers. One of the biggest mysteries surrounds Chris Redfield, with theResident Evil 8trailers and promotional material suggesting that there may be something sinister going on with the fan favorite character.
In fact, some promotional artwork has hinted thatChris Redfieldis a werewolf inResident Evil 8, but that could be misdirection. Maybe fans will get some clarification later tonight if a newResident Evil 8trailer is released during The Game Awards 2020 as expected.
