One of the most anticipated games currently in development is From Software’sElden Ring. Anxious fans are not-so-patiently awaiting news of any kind about the action-RPG. Yet, despite the overwhelming excitement forElden Ring, From Software has gone almost entirely silent. After dropping a trailer during the Xbox press conference at E3 2019, little has been said or shared aboutElden Ring. Part of the reason why may be the COVID-19 pandemic.

ResetEra user taepoppuri shared potential insider information regarding the ongoing development ofElden Ring. Some might recall that taepoppuri revealed early details about theElden RingE3 trailerprior to it being publicly released. Now,Elden Ringfans are sweeping through their posts after a late October post came into view. An even older post, going all the way back to April, claimed thatElden Ringhad been delayed two-to-three months due to COVID-19.

The more recent post from late October comes from a poll regarding games that will launch in 2021. taepoppuri replied, “AbsolutelyElden Ring,” with a smirking emoji. This led readers to find their April post, which read, “IMHO, it’ll be early 2021 ^^ They’d had aim for the same time-frame as their previous souls game, but with Covid-19, it would takes 2-3 more months.” The user has remained consistent about a2021 launch forElden Ringfor some time.

If taepoppuri’s schedule is kept in mind, then a mid-year launch forElden Ringwould make sense, even if they call that “early.” From Software games are almost always launched in March. If COVID-19 delayed the game, a May or June release date could fit their description. That is, providedElden Ringhasn’t faced any further delays since taepoppuri’s comments from April. Even with a substantial delay, however, a2021 release datewould seem likely, as the game could fall out later in the year.

As for why this discussion is being had, excitement forElden Ringnews is once again peaking. The Game Awards 2020is just over a week away, and as with every big gaming eventElden Ringfans are hoping an announcement or reveal will be made. It may or may not be true, but that just goes to show how excited From Software fans are about the new game.

The onlyconfirmed information aboutElden Ringis that the game is still currently in development. There’s no confirmed release window, so it could be 2021 or later, and there’s no announcement regarding the game’s next announcement. Anything otherwise remains a matter of rumor and speculation.

Elden Ringis currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
