Nintendomay be hosting its first Nintendo Direct event of 2023 as early as next week, according to the latest rumors.Nintendohas traditionally hosted a Nintendo Direct presentation in February, oftentimes using the moment to shine a light on all the big Nintendo Switch games releasing in the first half of the year. Nothing official has been announced at the time of this writing, but it would be strange for Nintendo to break from this pattern.

There are numerous big Nintendo Switch games on the horizon that Nintendo may want to highlight as part of a Nintendo Direct event. The biggest of these would undoubtedly beThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the long-awaited follow-up to the critically-acclaimedBreath of the Wild. While Nintendo has not confirmed any plans for aNintendo Direct in February, industry insider Jeff Grubb believes that it could happen as early as next week. Grubb said that he has been “hearing” that Nintendo will host a Nintendo Direct event the week of February 6. Fans should take this with a grain of salt, especially since Grubb said he is not “guaranteeing” that the Direct event will actually happen next week. And since Nintendo has been known to surprise-drop Direct presentations with no prior announcements, fans won’t know for sure until one either happens next week or the week comes and goes with no event.

If Nintendo does host a Nintendo Direct event next week, one has to imagine thatThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomwould be a big focus, along with other upcoming Switch exclusives likeKirby’s Return to Dream Land DeluxeandBayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. It’s possible other previously-announced Nintendo Switch games could also get the spotlight, likePikmin 4, but that’s anyone’s guess, really.

One distinct possibility is that the Nintendo Direct, if it takes place, will finally provide a release date forAdvance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.Delayed in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,Advance Wars 1+2 ReBoot Campis still without a solid release date at the time of this writing. Rumor has it that the game may be surprise-launched when it does arrive, and if so, a Nintendo Direct would be the perfect place for such an announcement.

For now, Nintendo fans should keep their expectations in check. History shows that it is highly likely thatNintendo is going to host a Nintendo Direct presentationat some point in February, but it’s not guaranteed.
