If the latest rumors are to be believed, Netflix is going all-in onResident Evillive-action TV shows. A new rumor claims that Netflix has greenlit the development of a secondResident Evilseries for the streaming service. This isn’t just a typicalResident Evilseries, however. According to the rumor, the newly approved series will see the return ofResident Evilfilm star Milla Jovovich, and she’ll even be reprising her role as the films' protagonist, Alice.
The rumor comes from outlet WeGotThisCovered, referencing multiple anonymous sources that they say have been reliable. Beyond that Milla Jovovich will be starring in the newResident Evilseries, little else is said. The only other confirmed detail is that the newResident Evilshow ill take place after the related film series, the most recent beingResident Evil: The Final Chapter, which was released in early 2017. Fans will recall thatThe Final Chapterended with a tease for more in the future.

As noted, the Milla JovovichResident Evilseries at Netflix isn’t reported to be the only one. An earlier rumor claims that a different, unrelatedResident Evilseries had already been approved at Netflixwith plans to release it later in 2020. Even less is known about thatResident Evilshow, unfortunately, though it may be related to a differentResident Evilstoryline or property. It could even be an animated series likeCastlevania, for all anyone knows.
It’s also possible that the firstResident Evilseries was canceled to make room for the second, or that both series could be delayed or even reconsidered due to the ongoing pandemic. WithTV show and film productions across the world shutting down, the only certainty right now is uncertainty.
Why Netflix would choose to make a Milla JovovichResident Evilwhen it already has other plans foraResident Evilshow should be self-evident. TheResident Evilfilms were not well-received, but they were incredibly profitable. As Netflix’sAdam Sandlerpartnership should show, it’s comfortable bringing in talent that leads to more viewers even if it reviews poorly.
For the time being, the rumors about both theMilla JovovichResident Evilshow and the other rumoredResident Evilshow at Netflix are wholly reliable. That’s especially true given the state of Netflix show production amid the COVID-19 pandemic. If the shows are in development and continue to be so, an announcement wouldn’t be likely until the pandemic eases. That could be months and months away.Resident Evilfans will just have to be patient and enjoy the speculation.
