Rustis a game that many people will think of when it comes to titles that are well known for their brutality. In Facepunch Studios' open-world title, theonly goal is for players to survive, and that is easier said than done. Anyone who’s logged in will know that feeling of struggling to make it through one night without succumbing to a wild animal or trigger-happy player. And now things are about to get even harder.
As reported by PCGamesN,Rustis rolling out its September patch, which comes with a number of tweaks and updates. As well as visual improvements to things like the campfire and the terminals at the marketplace, perhaps the one that most are going to be interested in is the new hardcore mode. This will do away with any handholding for the player and is likely best suited for those who really fancy a challenge. For one thing, this mode removes the in-game map and encrypts the level once it’s been loaded up.

Such an implementation is likely to put some people off, but this is optional and will not replace the current modes of the game.Rustconsistently gets major updates, to the tune of one per month, but this seems like the first one that actively sets out to really up the ante in terms of sheer punishment. Running around the island without knowing where to go or where there’s a safe place is bound to add that extra element of tension.
Despite the harshness of the game, or perhaps even because of it,Rustis considered by many fans to beone of the best open-world games around. It can be tough to make it through those first couple of days, but there are the resources to make it through, build near-impenetrable shelters, stock up on food and water, and find or make weapons to ward off the advances of an approaching bear or a player that’s eyeing up another’s gear.
Rustis also asurvival game with a lot of replay value, even if this replayability comes from having to restart due to being killed. Other releases likeDayZ,The Long Dark, andEscape From Tarkovhave become popular among gamers over the years. There is something about breaking through after multiple attempts, but eventually, many get to the stage where they are not only surviving in these barbarous worlds, but are even thriving.Rustis no different in that regard.
Rustis available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
