TheSea of Thievesupdate that everyone has been waiting for is finally here.Rare announced an update for its online multiplayer pirate gamea few weeks back, and the Ships of Fortune update is now live.
Some of the highlights of the update include the ability to join in a new emissary system, updates to PvP, and of course, the ability to have cats as pets withinSea of Thieves. All of this is free for Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, and Xbox Game Pass.

While PVP related features a focus on the update, the cats are what has the community talking when it comes to the Ships of Fortune update. Cats can now be purchased from the Pirate Emporium, the game’s premium store. There are three cat breeds, the scruffy Wildcat, fluffy Ragamuffin, and slinky Mau. Players will also be able to dress up their cats. Many will want to have their cat match their pirate, or even have it match theirHalo-themed pirate ship. With how popular the cats are with fans with the update, Rare may have well just called it the Feline of Fortune update instead.
For those who are dog-lovers, or for those who want to focus on the new emissary system, Rare certainly didn’t pull any punches. Players can now join up with their favorite traders, either the Gold Hoarders, Merchant’s Guild, Athena’s Fortune, or Order Of Souls. In this way, it is sort of like selected a faction. Once a player selects a trader emissary, they will receive boosted rewards on their voyages. Additionally, they can hoist their Emissary Flag on voyages and get greater awards moving forward. All of these gameplay features will be will work onSteam with crossplay in the near future inSea of Thieves.
During theanniversary ofSea of Thieves, Rare confirmed The Arena, and with this most recent update, the developer is doubling down on PVP modes. Players can choose to become an emissary of The Reaper’s Bones other players on the map gold and reputation. The Reaper’s Hideout is where to go for all of this action. Meanwhile, the Arena is getting an overhaul. Matches are being cut down to 15 minutes, and maps are being replaced by one single chest, assuring that matches will be completed in a timely and fast-paced manner.
There are a lot of things to do in the swashbuckling adventure game by Rare, and some may be overwhelmed if they are new, though,there is a list of helpful tips for beginnings toSea of Thievesthat may get the ball rolling. For those jumping right in, and for those who have been roaming the seas for well over two years since its release, the most recent update has some welcome content.
