As a live service title,Call of Duty: Warzoneis constantly changing through updates and new seasonal content. Not only does this mean new characters, cosmetics, and other items, but weapons are constantly changing as well with the game’s meta shifting and pushing players to discover the new must use weapon. Outside of normal updates and seasonal changes, another big shift in the game’s meta came during the integration betweenModern WarfareandBlack Ops Cold Warwhich saw a major shift in weapon usage.
During these shifts and changes, diligent players have also been able to identify weapons with unannounced and secret traits. Earlier this year, it was discovered that theFFAR-1 could be buffed if players used certain attachments like the Ranger Barrelwhich pushed it to the top of the game’s meta during that time frame. More recently, the MP5 may have had a number of its nerfs reversed, as the gun saw a recent performance boost.

The stealth changes don’t appear to stop there however asCall of Duty: Warzonecontent creator TrueGameData has examined both theKar98k fromModern Warfareand the Swiss K31 fromBlack Ops Cold War. While both long-range guns are extremely popular, TrueGameData has found a clear winner thanks to one weapon’s massive aim assist advantage over the other.
In testing both guns, the Kar98k gains hipfire aim-assist to around 35m with normal aim down sights assist to about 200m. Interestingly enough, the Swiss K31 gets no hipfire aim assist and only minimal ADS assist. As such, TrueGameData recommends thatCall of Duty: Warzonecontroller players default to the Kar98k thanks to the significant aim assist, though for traditional keyboard and mouse players, the Swiss is probably the better choice due to the slightly better damage and reload. It’s currently unknown why this is happening, but some theorize that it is due to the Kar98k being classified as a marksman rifle instead of a traditional sniper.
One thing that’s started to creep into the minds of Warzone players is the upcoming launch ofCall of Duty: Vanguardand how its integration will impact that overall meta. Last December, the integration betweenModern WarfareandBlack Ops Cold Warwent poorly and fans are hoping that history won’t repeat itself. The other worry is that the older guns will become obsolete, replaced by the newer Vanguard weapons, similar to what occured with the DMR 14 becoming absolutely dominant for a time.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
