Coming off themassive success ofElden Ring, its biggest and best-selling game yet, FromSoftware went back to its roots to revive its dormantArmored Coreseries with a sixth installment last month. Each one of FromSoftware’s Souls titles have surpassed at least one million copies, with its most recentElden Ringsmashing 20 million in just over a year. Now,Sekiro: Shadows Die Twicehas become one of the studio’s bestselling Souls games. On Twitter,Sekirohas announced that it’s surpassed 10 million physical and digital copies sold since its launch in March 2019. With this,Sekironow sits right behindDark Souls 3and, of course,Elden Ringas FromSoflware’s third-bestselling Souls title.

With more eyes on FromSoftware now than ever before thanks toElden Ring, it would be interesting to know if its incredible critical and commercial success has had an effect on retroactively boosting sales of From’s older games. Thismay have come into effect withArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, which had passed one million copies sold on Steam in its first two weeks. Without the success ofElden Ring,it’s tough to say whether some of these other FromSoftware games would be reaching these milestones.

However, this isn’t to underestimateSekiroas one of FromSoftware’s most fundamentally unique titles, as its Sengoku-era Japan setting, fixed protagonist, and fast-paced parry-focused combat sets it apart from the studio’s other offerings.Sekirohas made a mark of its own on the industry in the years since its launch, as more recent Soulslikes such asThymesiaandLies of Pimplement a similar parry-based combat system. WithArmored Core 6out the door andElden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC supposedly up next, the question of what FromSoftware’s next game will be is an interesting one for fans of the studio and of Souls games in general.
