The star of the second movie inMarvel Studios' Phase 4 slate isn’t shooting down talk that he might eventually make an appearance in one or more of the Disney Plus series.Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsstar Simu Liu didn’t rule out eventually appearing in one or more of the streaming services' offerings in the future during a recent interview.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringswill be the first real departure from the shows and movies that were tied into Phase 3 of the MCU. Now thatInfinity WarandEndgamehave come and gone, many of the heroes and villains in those films, and the ones that led up to them, will start to fade into the background. This summer’sBlack Widowis considered the official start of Phase 4, butShang-Chiwill kick off the new setof characters and movies for Marvel Studios. Of course, there will still be some heroes from Phase 3 around, including those appearing in several Disney Plus series that will be interwoven into Phase 4.

It was that intermingling that ledVanity Fairto ask Liu whether he might appear in more than just movies involvingShang-Chi. While not committing one way or another, he seemingly left the door open. Liu told the publication that his contract is open-ended and does not stipulate where his character might make an appearance. He went on to say that Marvel’s Kevin Feige created an ecosystem where the MCU is almost platform agnostic.
Liu went on to say that meant that it was possible he could end up on aDisney Plus series likeLoki, or he might even find his character in a video game. However, he was careful not to say if anything was planned. Rather, he simply did not know if Feige had any plans for Shang-Chi beyond appearances on the big screen.
The interview wasn’t thefirst time that Liu mentioned Shang-Chipossibly being in a video game, but so far it’s just been the actor expressing interest in that kind of project. However, the interview was the first time he’s gone on record mentioning a series, which had MCU fans wondering if he was tipping something off.
So far,Lokihas largely been a self-contained series, without crossovers from other movies or series. However, both series that came before it,WandaVisionandThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, had several movie characters reprise their roles. Both shows also had unexpected cameos that were largely a surprise to their viewers. It’s possibleLokicould feature something similar at some point in its MCU run.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringswill be released in theatres on August 04, 2025.
