As a last attempt to promoteShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel Studios released an interview with the cast and director of the highly-anticipated film just before it premiered in theaters. The four-minute video shared on social media has Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, and director Destin Daniel Cretton answered some questions that would help offer more insight to fans.
As they answered the interviewer’s questions, they reveal some behind-the-scenes stories from the sets of theMarvel Studiosfilm, which is now showing in theaters. The most important aspect, in their opinion, isthe action sequences inShang-Chi, which they claim are quite unique compared to what fans have seen in previous projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

At the beginning of the film, the adult Shang-Chi is introduced to fans as Shaun, a valet at a San Francisco hotel who parks cars for a living, along with his best friend Katy. As is common with people that age, the two of them are a little bit “directionless in life” and not sure about what to do next, which both Liu and Awkwafina acknowledge in the Marvel interview. Director Cretton, however, confirms thatShang-Chi is essentially running from the painof his past, covering it up “with his charm and humor.” But, the facade finally breaks and his true self is exposed.
One thing that the cast and crew have repeatedly talked about in the past is how Shang-Chi has the best action sequences in the MCU thus far. The early reviews of the film also hadcritics callingShang-ChiMarvel’s best action film. In the Marvel interview, the cast and director are once again asked to talk about all the action in the movie, and they talk about their favorite sequences. Zhang talks about how she had no martial arts background and so was very nervous while shooting any action scenes. However, she loved filming the first fight scene between Xialing and Shang-Chi because she was able to punch Liu during the shoot.
Florian Munteanu, who plays Razor Fist, talks about theepic bus sequence inShang-Chi, which has been seen in almost all the trailers released for the film. He talks about how both he and Liu were involved in shooting the entire sequence, and a stunt double did not step in. Cretton describes the action sequences in the film as “beautiful and elegant,” words that aren’t typically used to describe an action flick.
Liu, on the other hand, talks about them as if they were songs in an album. “Some are really fast-paced, some are very slow, and some are almost like love songs,” he is heard saying during the interview.
