Even thoughThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimcame out more than a decade ago, millions of fans are still keen to jump into the boots of the Dragonborn. Consideredone of the most celebrated open-world games of all time, Bethesda’s 2011 release is still going strong. Much of this longevity can be attributed to the modding community, which is tirelessly putting out new content, increasing the already pretty immense world, or possibly offering up a small dose of reality.
That’s what user Nakano15 seems to have done, at least. As reported by Gfinity, a new mod has come out which increases the in-game prices ofSkyrim, making it much more difficult to afford items and services. While the description on Nexus Mods doesn’t specify how much things have gone up by, it does mention that items available in stores, spending a night in a local inn, and hiring a carriage now cost a lot more. It’s hard to say whether the modder intended this as a parody of the real world cost of living increase, or it’s simply to make things a bit more difficult.

In the base game, there are a few veryexpensive items players can purchase inSkyrim. Much of which involves Daedric artifacts, such as armor, with some accouterments setting the Dragonborn back tens of thousands of Septims. However, many players enjoy the thrill of being a more stealthy character, whereby they can make some quick cash by just stealing from others, or stealing items and selling them at the Thieves Guild. But it seems as though Nakano15’s “Pricy Skyrim” add-on intends to make it so that even the most professional burglar is going to have to work hard to afford a life in Tamriel.
It’s things like this which are helping to keep the epic RPG in the gaming limelight, despite it being 11 years old at this point. There are so manyfantastic mods forSkyrim, created by dedicated and talented people, that it’s possible to play through the whole thing from scratch and have a different experience entirely.
In general,The Elder Scrollsseries has an interesting enough loreto make the games feel even huger than their physical sizes. But the vanilla playthroughs are still finite. The fact that so many mods are consistently being released shows that there is a lot more potential in this 2011 release, and it gives players more to do while they wait for any news about the next installment in the long-running franchise.
