There are a lot of horse-related Creations included inSkyrim Anniversary Edition, adding a variety of new mounts as well as ways to customize one’s horse. In vanillaSkyrimthere are very few named mounts, and even fewer ways to customize a horse’s appearance.

While they are obviously a nod to the much-maligned Horse Armor DLC forOblivion, the two Horse Armor Creations can make aplayer’s mount more resilient– plus, the creation is permanently free, even withoutAnniversary Edition. Additionally, the Wild Horses Creation doesn’t just add new mount options, it also gives players a limited ability to rename their horses.
How To Rename A Horse In Skyrim
Renaming a horse is a simple process, though it’s not as customizable as one might like. To rename a horse inSkyrimhead to a stablemasterand scroll through their dialogue tofind the option, “I’d like to register and rename my horse.“Click this, and the stablemaster will give your current mount a namechosen from a list of about 30 options.
Despite there now being a system to give a horse a name, the player has no direct control over what name will be given. It doesn’t cost anything to rename a horse, though, so whileplayers can’t give their horse a specific name, it can be re-registeredover and over again until one sticks.
How To Get Horse Armor In Skyrim
There are two types of Horse Armor Creations included inAnniversary Edition, being theElven Horse Armor and Steel Horse Armorpacks. These Horse Armors are direct references to theOblivionDLC of the same name, thoughthese ones cost significantly lessin the grand scheme of things.
Either of these Horse Armor options can bepurchased from a stablemaster or a blacksmith, butplayers are unable to craft a set on their own. Talk to either a stablemaster or blacksmith and select the option “I would like to armor my horse”. This action costs 500 Gold at either vendor and is applied immediately.Players can swap armorsbytalking to one of these vendorsand selecting the other option, which puts the currently-equipped Horse Armor into storage.Once both have been purchased it costs nothing to refit the horsewith either set.
