The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis full of interesting companions that players can bring along with them on their quests, and out of these individuals, one of the most popular is Lydia. Lydia is met early in the game and so is a companion nearly everySkyrimplayer has had with them at one point or another. Lydia’s unwavering dedication to the Dragonborn and her status as a marriage candidate has made her a fan favorite companion, but unfortunately, she has a tendency to get lost.

It’s not all that uncommon forSkyrimcompanionsto get lost in its massive open world, and while there are tricks to make them pop back up in certain locations, they don’t always work. It’s also possible thatSkyrimcompanions will get killed while out in the world without the player ever knowing, and so fans often have to struggle with Lydia and other companions disappearing from the game, never to be seen again.

Skyrimplayer and Reddit user FreshLuxe claims to have lost track of Lydia fairly early on in the game, only for her to suddenly reappear later. In a video posted to Reddit, FreshLuxe shows themselves randomly running into Lydia while they were halfway through theCollege of Winterhold questline.

Now, it’s entirely possible that this video was staged. After all, when FreshLuxe talks to Lydia, the first dialogue option is “Follow Me,” which could indicate that she was given the command to stay there in the first place. But regardless, it wouldn’t necessarily be out of character for Lydia to disappear one day and then show back up another. This is something that a lot ofSkyrimplayers experience in their playthroughs, and not just withLydia, but other companions as well.

It will be interesting if Bethesda’s upcomingStarfieldgame has similar problems with companions. While Bethesda has yet to properly showcaseStarfieldin any major capacity, it has confirmed that the game will have companions. Since it’s a sci-fi game that will presumably feature multiple planets,Starfieldcompanionsare going to have to follow players across much greater distances thanSkyrimcompanions do, so one would think the potential to get lost would be even greater.

Luckily, the wait to see Bethesda’s next game is nearly at an end. Ajoint Bethesda and Microsoft showcase event is scheduled for June 12, at which point fans are expecting to see a lot what it has to offer. While they wait for more information on future Bethesda games, fans can continue playing the agelessSkyrim, which just released a specialAnniversary Editionnot that long ago.
