Back in 2019,Kaguya-Sama: Love Is Wartook the anime community by storm. The anime offers a series of unique characters andwitty comedy momentsthat have not been seen for a long time, at least not sinceThe Disastrous Life of Saiki KandTeasing Master Takagi-sana year prior.

These types ofanimedo not compare to the depth ofKaguya-Sama’sstory though, which offers a unique premise all its own — all the characters attend Shuchi’in Academy where only the most intelligent (and richest) people in Japan can attend, which is the setting for the anime’s romance-backed showdowns of psychological warfare. However, given how intelligent all the characters are, some are clearly more accomplished than the rest.
How Is Intelligence Determined In Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War?
By definition, intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and use knowledge and skills. Given that the world ofKaguya-Sama: Love Is Warisset in a school environment, the first place tends to fall to academic abilities and traditional knowledge.
However, to gain an accurate assessment of a character’s intellect, readers will need a mix of social and technical achievements to also be analyzed — these traits will be considered in the ranking, with a primary focus on academic skills.

6Yu Ishigami
Surprisingly, for a member of the Student Council with the most math-centric job (as the Treasurer), Yu Ishigami is one of the more unintellectual main characters inKaguya-Sama: Love Is War.Granted, Ishigami is highlylogical, however, he is lacking in the studying department.

This is a fairly common trope in the anime; at one point, Kaguya has to help Ishigami in order for him to pass his exams (using a few comically cruel teaching methods). Even though Ishigami is the only member of the Student Council at risk of failing his examination, he does have his own brand of intelligence in other areas. Ishigami has shown himself to be fairly perceptive about minute details, and for this reason, was recruited into the Student Council for his ability to process data and figures.
5Miko Iino
Let’s be clear, Miko Iino is among the most naive characters introduced inKaguya Sama: Love is War’ssecond season. However, despite her lack of social intelligence, Miko Iino is amongthe anime’s smartest characters.
Head of the disciplinary committee, Miko is incredibly serious and has held an official school position since her middle school career. A lot of Miko’s serious academic behavior ties back to her relationship with her father, a Judge on the Supreme Court, which left her with plenty of books on law and justice to read — this led to her public morals-centered personality (much to Ishigami’s chagrin).

4Ai Hayasaka
Themost trusted servantof Kaguya Shinomiya, Ai Hayasaka is without a doubt one of the most talented characters inKaguya-Sama: Love Is War. She is an expert actress, playing many roles (including a foreign maid when Miyuki visited Kaguya, and a popular extroverted schoolgirl as her normal cover), and she also is shown to have extensive technical knowledge as well.
In addition, Hayasaka is shown to be an accomplished manager, effectively controlling Kaguya Shinomiya’s schedule daily and conducting (often comical) military-style operations to ensure her mistress’ plans ago undisturbed. Nonetheless, though she has massive technical and social skills, Hayasaka does lack any outstanding academic mention in the anime (though that does not mean that she is unintelligent in this regard either).

3Chika Fujiwara
It may come as a surprise to anime-only watchers that Chika Fujiwara is ranked higher than Yu Ishigami in terms of intelligence (given that she is often corrected by her junior). However, once the evidence is put in place, it’s hard to deny that Chika is a smart cookie — while maybe a little bit ditzy, the Secretary of Shuchi’in Academy’s Student Council is far from stupid.

On multiple occasions, Chika’s many talents and skills are referenced; she is a prodigy pianist, highly athletic, and a daughter raised by a high-profile family of diplomats capable of speaking 5 languages. That said, while Chika is smart compared to many of the other characters in the anime, she is more naive and unlikely to catch on to the main ridiculous scenarios that the series’ main couple makes up.
2Kaguya Shinomiya
Kaguya Shinomiya is the namesakemain character of the series, and given that, it makes sense that she would be incredibly intelligent. After all,Kaguya Sama: Love is Waris framed as a mental showdown between two geniuses in love. Kaguya is the number two student in the school as far as academics are concerned, and likewise, the number two in the entire school as the Vice President of the Student Council.
Her skill extends even past her academic career, as Kaguya is a master archery expert, having taken number one in Japan for her sport. All of this largely comes down to her family’s pride, as she has been conditioned since childhood to be an ice-cold machine capable of achieving anything she chooses.

1Miyuki Shirogane
Of course, just as Kaguya Shinomiya is the series’ number two, Miyuki Shirogane isKaguya-Sama: Love Is War’snumber one. At least, Miyuki ranks first in terms of intelligence, standing on equal terms with Kaguya (in fact, she is one of the main reasons for the Student Council President’s heavy studying). In terms of total intelligence, Kaguya and Miyuki seem to be on equal grounds, making themcollectively the smartest individuals inKaguya-Sama: Love is War.
Despite this, Miyuki did achieve this while being at a disadvantage, coming from a poorer family (and needing to work extensively for this reason). Though the series isa romantic comedy, Miyuki’s intelligence extends past his “showdowns” with Kaguya. He has been a major influence on nearly every character in the series due to his highly logical mindset. One good example is Ishigami, in which Miyuki effectively changed his junior’s life for the better.
