This includes the current strategy in capturing repeat sales, the game’s reception, along with the current DLC roadmap.Sonic Frontiersreleased last November, being the first mainline 3D game in the series infive years sinceSonic Forces. There was cautious optimism and lingering doubts on the game’s lead-up, especially during its initial impressions. While the game isn’t without faults and the critical reception was mixed, fans had boldly embraced the franchise’s new direction, which was reflected in the game’s healthy sales numbers. This included a temporary sale around Black Friday, though the price of the game remains the same. According to Sega, sinceSonic Frontierslaunched alongside heavy competition in November, the company took on a “repeat sales” strategy, which had fallen short of its forecast. That said, the amount of repeat sales was maintained between the previous fiscal year, with the game still managing to perform well. The company believes that withSonic Frontiers’ upcoming DLC roadmap, it shall help increase the game’s sales. When Sega was asked about the performance allowing for more development costs to futureSonicgames, the company said that it expected these costs to increase. It states while part of it is due to global labor costs increasing, the budget of majorSonictitles is expected to be bigger, even at the early stages.
The company was also asked aboutSonic Frontiers’ Metacritic score, which was mixed with critics but a hit with fans. Sega acknowledged that while it was lower than expected, the user score indicates that the company believes it had found a game that is widely accepted by a number of people, and will continue to build upon repeat sales ofFrontiers. Furthermore, theSonicfranchise is expected to be promoted further, with the release ofSonic Prime, the third movie, and other merchandise.
