Fans have come across an alternate universe forSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Now more fans are going back to the theater to see which version they get.Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseis the sequel to the best picture winnerSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film has currently made over $500 million at the box office in its first three weeksdespite being banned in some countries, which is well over $100 million more than its predecessor did in its entire theatrical run. During the first week of its release, fans reported that the film was hard to hear. Sony sent out updated prints of the film to theaters that were affected.Related:Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Now Has A Companion Short Film With A Hint Of HorrorAround the same time Sony sent the updated prints, fans who rewatched the film noticed some changes. Thescene was when Miguelwas asking Lyla to send backup, one version of the scene ended with Lyla pointing at Miguel, while the other ended with Lyla taking a selfie with Miguel. Andrew Leviton who is an associate editor ofAcross the Spider-Verseseemingly confirmed that there were two versions when he quote tweeted saying, “I was wondering when people might start noticing…”
That scene is not the only difference found between the two versions.A post by Reddit user Hohoho-youshows a collection of 8 changes that fans reportedly noticed. Most of the changes seem to be dialogue or minor scene changes, but did includesome fan favorite moments. This alternate version is not like the Alternate Universe Cut forSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseon the Blue-Ray release which added 26 minutes of additional scenes to the film.
It is not confirmed if the two versions were in theaters since it originally premiered or if Sony swapped out versions when fixing the sound issues. At the moment there is no confirmation as to how to see the alternate version if it is in select theaters or just alternate versions. Fans will need to buy a ticket and hope that they spot the differences or wait to see if both versions are released digitally or on DVD.
It will be interesting to see if there are possibly more than two versions, or if they decide to add more later into its theatrical run. One thing fans do know is that none of these changes are canon events. This means no matter which version you see our universe is safe and won’t be completely erased from existence.
