Summary
Splatoon 3has unveiled adorable new merchandise: Golden Egg bath bombs that transform into collectible Smallfry toys. The item is likely to be a hit with any players who enjoy Salmon Run or have a strong fondness forAgent 3’s Smallfry.
Splatoon 3has had much more of an emphasis on Salmonids and their impact on the game’s world thanSplatoon 2. In addition to switching from limited Salmon Run shifts to allowing access to the mode 24/7, the game has also seen expansion of the creatures' involvement, with Salmonids invading the city in Big Run and the player’s Smallfry having particular significance in the game’s story mode. While there aren’t any Golden Eggs that hatch to reveal Smallfry in the game, this product gives an idea of what that could look like.

Now,Splatoon 3has announcedthat bath bombs that look likeGolden Egg Power Eggsthat dissolve away to reveal a Smallfry figure are going on sale. The products are set to go on sale on Feburary 26, 2024, for 495 yen each, or roughly $3.32 USD based on currency conversions as of this writing. Each bath bomb includes an additional colored ink stand to hold the Smallfry figure that ‘hatches’ out of the bath bomb for display purposes. The Smallfry themselves differ, too, with each figure having a unique hairstyle or facial expression. As a bath bomb, it should also provide a relaxing experience, as it offers a pleasant chamomile scent.
The Future of Splatoon and Salmonid
WhileSplatoon 3’s Smallfry doesn’t have much involvement in the day-to-day activities of the game, primarily making appearances around the town or in the game’s story mode, many fans were instantly charmed by the fishy pet. It’s unlikely that the game’supcoming Side Order DLCwill feature the small Salmonid, as the gameplay shown so far focuses entirely on Pearl and Agent 8 fromSplatoon 2. A recent teaser seemed to confirm this, showingSplatoon 3’s protagonist and Smallfry falling asleep on a train before the game shifts to Agent 8.
For now, it remains to be seen if the focus on Salmonids will continue in the future of theSplatoonseries.Splatoon 3was initially promised two years of update support, and with theNintendo Switch 2 rumorscontinuing to brew, many fans are considering what’s next for the ink shooter franchise. Salmonid could play an even bigger role in a potentialSplatoon 4, or the developers could shift their focus away from the species entirely in an effort to keep the series “fresh.”
