Summary
Star Wars Outlawsis the highly-anticipated open-worldStar Warsgame from Ubisoft, and it lets players do business with the iconic crime lord of Tatooine – Jabba the Hutt. Thetrailer forStar Wars Outlawsdebutedin June 2023, and the exploration, scale, and ship combat on display certainly put forward the idea that Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft are working on something special.
Unlike the more traditionalStar Warsstory inFallen OrderandSurvivorthat focused on the struggles and journey of a Jedi,Star Wars Outlawsputs the players into the role of Kay Vess, a smuggler, bounty hunter, and all-around scoundrel trying to navigate the galactic underworld. She is accompanied by ND-5, a former Separatist Battle Droid, and her alien companion Nix, who will be able to attack enemies, activate out-of-reach buttons, cause distractions, and even pick up weapons from fallen foes.

ThoughOutlawswill no doubt place Kay and her crew on an adventure tonewStar Warsplanets, there is one familiar location that Ubisoft couldn’t avoid visiting: the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is Mos Eisley, situated on the desert world of Tatooine. During San Diego Comic-Con, developers not only shared that Tatooine would be a featured planet inStar Wars Outlaws, but that players would be able to directly work (and even betray) Jabba the Hutt, its preeminent crime lord.
As it is with theAssassin’s Creedgames, the concept of visual tourism is important to Ubisoft, and according to director Julian Gerighty,Star Wars Outlawswill offer players a definitive answer on how far the moisture farms are from Mos Eisley’s famous watering hole. Jabba’s palace will also play a prominent role inOutlaws, and since its story takes place betweenEpisode 5andEpisode 6, players will have a chance to see Han Solo encased in carbonite during their dealings with Jabba.
An important thing to note is thatStar Wars Outlawswill feature a Reputation system, which will give players discounted prices, exclusive quests, and even access to new areas if they play their cards right. Considering the power of the Hutt Cartels in the Outer Rim during the time of the Galactic Empire, it makes sense that they’d feature as a major faction for Kay to engage with. Though there hasn’t been any new gameplay footage, players hopefully won’t have to wait long to get a more comprehensive look.
Star Wars Outlawsis set to release in 2024 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
