Summary

Stardew Valleyplayers are pointing out an underlying problem with the way that quests and gifting work in the game, and are suggesting solutions. The problem is one that mostStardew Valleyplayers have probably experienced at least once for themselves.

Stardew Valleyis acozy gamethat allows players to build relationships with nearly everyone in the town. To get on an NPC’s good side, players can talk to them, give them gifts, and deliver requested items in quests that are generally either mailed to their house or put on the town’s community board. However, handing over said gifts or deliveries isn’t always easy, and players are talking about how this common issue could be resolved.

Reddit user meemobopp shared their troubles with theStardew Valleycommunity, where they explained that they had an active quest from Robin to deliver anAmethyst. They had the item ready to go, but unfortunately, they had timed their farm renovation plans poorly andRobinwas preoccupied with building on the farm. Although she was right there, she was essentially inaccessible, making it impossible to give her the item she had requested.

Fellow players shared in meemobopp’s plight, talking about how they’d had their own similar experiences. Giving aStardew ValleyNPC a giftthey enjoy on their birthday provides an extra boost to relationship scores, but in some cases, it may not be possible to even see the NPC. Early on, many NPCs don’t allow access to their homes, and some, likeElliott, will stay indoors if it’s raining outside, even on their birthdays.

Solving the Stardew Valley NPC Gift and Quest Problem

Fans have suggested a number of ways of fixing this issue that seem like good choices for ConcernedApe to implement in afuture update toStardew Valley. One is to simply allow players to mail the gift or quest item to the NPC in question. This would ensure that they get the item regardless of what they’re doing that day. Another was to allow players to knock on NPCs' doors. Although it may seem like a simple thing, this isn’t possible normally, even if the player is already inside the building the person lives in, but outside their bedroom. In theory, knocking on the door would allow the player to at least hand the item over, even if the NPC remains otherwise inaccessible for conversations or anything else.

While this seems like a small issue, it can be a major stopping block for those who are trying tobuild relationships withStardew Valleyvillagers quickly. While there are mods that can help, and rare instances where occupied NPCs like Robin can be talked to if the player stands in just the right spot, this seems like a problem that fans are eager to see amended by the developer.
