Lead is one of the most commonly used metals inStarfield, and it’s needed for a majority of gear crafting and base-building projects. Anyone who wants to dive deep into either of these systems will need a steady supply of this raw resource in their supply chain, and luckily, gathering lead can be done completely autonomously.

Outposts are more than just for show inStarfield. When set up properly, they can be turned into automated mining camps that serve as a small part of a greater manufacturing network. Here’s how to set up a self-sustaining lead mining operation.
First, players will needto find a planetthat actually contains lead deposits. Jemison, the home of the United Colonies, is very rich in lead while also being relatively safe, making it a perfect place to set up an outpost.

Before landing, scan the planet and refer to the resource map for possible lead spawn locations. After finding a good spot, set a custom waypoint on that location to create a landing zone. Once players have touched down, use the helmet scanner to survey the surroundings and look for a patch of land that has lead in it. The visor should highlight the ground if it has any useful materials hiding underneath.
Next, place a beacon to start an outpost, then place an extractor on the ground to start harvesting lead. Extractors require power to operate, so build a few windmills or solar panels to generate electricity. Also, make sure to place some storage containers so the extractors don’t overflow with materials. There are many more ways to improve the efficiency of mining outposts, but that’sa story for a different time.

Lead ore can also be found on rocks or cave walls on lead-filled planets. It may be best to harvest these as players make their way to POIs or objective markers just for the sake of getting some extra free resources.
Alternatively, lead can often be found in general goods stores. They are relatively cheap, and players should have no trouble buying such resources in bulk. Just be mindful of their weight, as large quantities of lead can easily overburden a player. Also, don’t forget that traders restock their inventories after some time, so ensure to check back regularly or forcefully pass the time by sleeping on a bed or resting on a nearby chair.
