Steam’s holiday season of sales events continues into 2020, as the PC storefront’sLunar New Year Salebegins. The Chinese New Year will be on Saturday, January 25 this year and will bring with it the start of the Year of the Rat. Valve’sSteamsale will celebrate the occasion, while also offering dozens of discounts across some of 2019’s most popular games. The sale is available now and will last through January 27 at 10:00 am PT.
As per usual, Steam has a meta-event going on alongside theLunar New Yearsale. This event rewards players with coins for each day they log in, as well as when they make purchases. Daily rewards come in the form of a traditional hongbao, or red envelope, which contains a random amount of currency. The currency is also earned by making purchases, with 100 coins for every dollar spent. Steam users can use this currency to either buy coupons, 5,000 coins for $5 off, or other things like emotes, profile backgrounds, and more.

Most Steam users are focused on what kind of discounts are being offered for the Lunar New Year, of course. And as with every Steam sale, there are a ton of great deals to make the most of. Featured games for the first day of the Lunar New Year Sale include theDestiny 2 Upgrade Editionincluding bothForsakenandShadowkeep,Resident Evil 2 Remake, andStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. There are dozens of other discounted games for Steam users to dig through, too.
Resident Evil 2- $19.79 ($59.99)
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order- $47.99 ($59.99)
Top sellers from the first hours of the Lunar New Year Sale include games likeFrostpunk, which has a new expansion available,The Elder Scrolls Online,Red Dead Redemption 2, andRainbow Six Siege. Clearly, Steam users are just as interested in older games that are releasing new content as they are in brand new games. Of course, the most important details is how much they’re discounted.
TheLunar New Year Sale on Steamisn’t as big as 2019’s Winter Sale, but some discounts are better than none. There’s also the possibility that Valve won’t have another sale for quite some time. In 2019, the Spring Sale was dropped, possibly due to the Lunar New Year Sale taking place in February. If the Spring Sale does come back it’ll likely be in May. If it doesn’t, then Steam users may be waiting for the Steam Summer Sale in June. In other words, make the most of the Lunar New Year Sale while it lasts.
