Of all the characters in Shift Up’sStellar Blade, none stand out quite like Mother Sphere. This is largely due to the fact that she is mentioned dozens of times by EVE, her companions, and those they regularly come into contact with. Mother Sphere is arguably one of the most important (if not the most important) characters inStellar Blade, and while her identity and purpose remain mostly a secret during the game’s earlier moments, her true self is revealed after each major plot point thanks to Raven’s logs.
Mother Sphere is not physically seen until the very end of the game, so up until then, it’s mostly unknown what she is really like. However, several data bank entries scattered throughoutStellar Blade’s worldshed some light on Mother Sphere — how she is viewed by others and what her intentions may be with Earth and her inhabitants — even beyond what is revealed in the story. For the most part, all of humanity is uncertain about Mother Sphere, even though some claim they know who she is, but she shows her true colors by the end of the game, and almost every opinion about her is laid to waste.
Stellar Blade’s Mother Sphere Explained
Who Mother Sphere Is Initially Believed to Be
Before the story really starts moving inStellar Blade, Mother Sphere is revered by many. There are those who worship Mother Sphere as though she is a goddess, to the point of saying they would do her will “on Earth as it is in heaven.” Mother Sphere is commonly referred to as the “mother of mankind,” the one who saved mankind from destruction and gave them life. She sent her beloved Angels to Earth to eradicate every lastNaytibaso that the human race might live free in prosperity once again. Unfortunately, that is a false reality and one that was established by Mother Sphere herself to cover up her true intentions.
Who Mother Sphere Truly Is
While it was originally believed that Mother Sphere was responsible for saving mankind, the truth is revealed asStellar Blade’s storyprogresses. As it turns out, Mother Sphere is actually the primary antagonist of the whole story. Her intentions from the very beginning were to eliminate all human life from the planet, and she would use her Angels to do so. When war broke out between the androids and the humans, the humans were driven underground, where they hid until being forced to evolve to overcome otherwise impossible odds.
It was here they became Naytibas, and they sought a violent audience with Mother Sphere herself.
As the Naytibas traveled to the Colony to confront Mother Sphere, she destroyed the orbit ring and thirty of its space modules. When the remains of the orbit ring fell to the earth, their impact completely wiped out civilization, leaving the planet in ruins. At first, civilization held the belief that the Naytibas were responsible for the desolation of Earth. However, it was Mother Sphere all along. In this story, she has now sent EVE,Stellar Blade’s protagonist, and the rest of the 7th Airborne Squad to eliminate the rest of the Naytibas who attempted an attack on her so many years ago.
What was first believed to be an act of benevolence by Mother Sphere to help save humanity from the Naytibas turns out to be an act of selfishness out of a desire for control and power. Mother Sphere is undoubtedlyStellar Blade’s main antagonist, not Naytibas, and it all makes for one worthwhile plot twist as the game reaches its inevitable conclusion.
