There’s no auto-save, no nothing; if players die before they can build a shelter, that’s the end of things. Players can lose all their progress in the blink of an eye.
Even worse, the game doesn’t teach the player how to make a shelter. They are literally stranded on a deserted island with no information — unless, of course, they use this guide. Here’s how to build a safe shelter inStranded Deepwith simple steps.

How to Craft the Shelter in Stranded Deep
To build a shelter,collect 4 palm fronds, 3 wood sticks, and 1 lashing. Then open the crafting menu by pressing C on the keyboard (R1 on PlayStation, RB on Xbox). Finally, click on Shelter in the Structures tab to craft it.
A shelter is where players sleep and save the game. But it’s not a moveable item; once placed, it remains in the same spot. So, a good strategy is to build itnear the fire.
Where to Find the Shelter Requirements
Because the shelter isone of the first things to build, it requires no craftsmanship level. However, players will still need to gather the three required items mentioned above.
Cut a Tree for Wood
Woods sticks are often scattered on the islands. But toget extra wood, cut down a tree. A crude ax,a refined pickaxe, or even a refined knife can help the player collect three wood sticks for their shelter
Chop Down Palm Top to Get Palm Frond
Toget palm fronds, chop down a palm tree and cut its head. Grab at least four fronds to build the shelter.
Get 4 Fibrous Leaves to Craft a Lashing
With a knife or ax, cut down a Yucca tree to obtain fibrous leaves. Once there are four of them in the inventory, open the crafting menu and click “Lashing” in the tools tab. Use the crafted item to finish the shelter.
How to Use the Shelter
On PC, hold E to use the shelter and save or sleep. On PlayStation, press and hold the square button. Do the same on Xbox by holding the X button. Remember,Stranded Deephas no auto-save mechanics. So, interacting with a shelter or a sleeping bag is a must. Otherwise, the progress is lost.
