Stranger Thingsseason 4 introduced Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson, a Hawkins High School student and leader of the Hellfire Club, aDungeons & Dragons-oriented society comprised of fellow students like Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin Henderson.Munson became a fan-favorite withStranger Thingsviewers, but the residents of Hawkins blamed him for the murder of Hawkins High’s Chrissy Cunningham. While Eddie and the mainStranger Thingscharacters discovered that the supernatural being Vecna was responsible for the murders of Chrissy and several other Hawkins residents, Eddie sacrificed himself to save his friends from Vecna’s Demobats when they traveled to the Upside to defeat the villain. Although the group severely wounded Vecna, they were unable to clear Eddie’s name and he died with few mourners because the town believed he was a murderer.
Still, fans wonder ifQuinn’s Eddie Munson will return inStranger Thingsseason 5. During an interview withEntertainment Tonight, Quinn was asked about the chances of reuniting with hisStranger Thingsco-stars. “The Chances are high! I love those guys! I’d love to say hello,” Quinn said. When the ET’s Rachel Smith stated that she feels fans would see Eddie Munson again, Quinn seemingly insinuated that she may be correct. “I might have that feeling too. Or maybe I don’t. I don’t know! Who knows?” he said.
After five seasons, fans have expectations forhow they wantStranger Thingsto end. How the showrunners resolve the show’s many storylines remains to be seen, but Quinn appears to be confident in the cast and crew’s ability to deliver a satisfying conclusion. While discussing his potential return, Quinn expressed excitement over theStranger Thingsteam finally being able to bring the ending to fans after such a long wait.

If Eddie Munson returned inStranger Thingsseason 5, fans would likely be unsurprised. The character’s death was indisputable—far from certain considering how often sci-fi and fantasy shows have left a character’s demise ambiguous by not showing a body—butStranger Things' paranormal ongoings leave the writers with a few options on how to bring Eddie Munson back. Perhaps the most obvious choice would be for Eddie Munson to return through a flashback scene or a vision/dream. Matarazzo’s Dustin Henderson was close with Eddie Munson, so it’s understandable if the former had his fallen friend on his mind. At the same time,Stranger Thingscould resurrect Eddie Munson, though how and why is an open question.
Of course, how substantial Eddie Munson’s role inStranger Things5 would be is uncertain. The final season already has many characters to serve, so adding another for a considerable arc could result in anunsatisfyingStranger Thingsendingthat’s overstuffed with storylines. Then again, Quinn played coy when he commented on Eddie Munson’s return, so he may not return in any capacity.
