Summary
Fairy Tail’s complex power system is laced with all manner of powers and magic, with some more rare than others. While lost magics suchas God Slayersand Dragon Slayers are extremely scarce, powers based on the four basic elements are rather abundant, with Water Magic being one of the most common types in the series.
Despite their relative abundance in the series, the strength of Water Magic users varies to a considerable degree, ranging from mere mages to all-powerful dragon gods. As the element of change and adaptability, Water Magic is arguably one of the most versatile powers inFairy Tail, and the strength of these users reflects the sheer destructive nature of this seemingly simple element.

Lisanna’s status as a water user might come as a surprise to many, as herprimary power is Takeover Magic. Unlike her siblings, Lisanna’s Takeover Magic grants her the power to turn into animals, subsequently gaining the powers of those respective creatures.
In her Animal Soul: Mermaid form, Lisanna has the element of water at her disposal. While she hasn’t been witnessed using any offensive techniques in the anime, the series’ video game adaptation features some water magic spells in her arsenal. Since her only canonical usage of this magic leans toward support and utility, it’s safe to say that Lisanna’s Water Magic is rather weak.

While Lucy is primarily a Celestial Spirit user, her ability to cast water spells stems from her Star Dress spell, a technique that allows Celestial Spirit mages to temporarily acquire their spirits’ powers by placing the respective gate key on their chest. The source of Lucy’s water magic is her Star Dress: Aquarius Form, meaning whenever Lucy dons this dress, she gains innate access to Aquarius’ water magic.
However, she can only gain a fraction of the spirit’s power, rendering her Water Magic significantly weaker than her spirit’s. Nevertheless, Lucy’s Star Dress: Aquarius Form has saved her on countless occasions, allowing her tofight by her spirit’s sideand support her friends.

As one of the four basic elements, Water Magic can often be found in the hands of mages through tools and other derivative magic. Erza’s usage of Water Magic is a prime example of this phenomenon since her primary power is Requip Magic.
By equipping her Sea King Armor, Erza’s blade becomes imbued with water magic, allowing her to throw a barrage of attacks. While her sword gains the ability to unleash water magic, her armor provides water resistance to a great degree, even going as far as nullifying Juvia’s flurry of Water Slicer attacks.

As a constellation with mythological roots in the sea, Pisces truly embodies the torrential power of the tides. In its fish form, the two spirits comprising Pisces take on the appearance of two gigantic Koi fish, while their human form is that of a mother and son.
The mother spirit can cast water spells and shoot beams of water, while its other half only uses Water Magic through a magic trident. Since Pisces is owned by Yukino Agria, a mere ancillary character in the series, this Celestial Spiritduo has received limited screen time, with most of their powers being a mystery.

As the quintessential water spirit, Aquarius is naturally one of the strongest water users inFairy Tail. According to Lucy, Aquarius boasts evengreater strength than Loke, the leader of the 12 Zodiac spirits. With a magical urn as her weapon of choice, Aquarius can siphon colossal amounts of water and strike her opponents with unprecedented force.
Her primary attack is Torrent, a beam of water that shreds through enemies, while Water Pillar is another powerful spell that strikes enemies from below. Aquarius’ sharp temper and aggressive nature also supplement her powers, deeming her water magic all the more potent.

As one of thefew actual water wizardsinFairy Tail, Juvia Lockser is a former S-class mage with exceptional control over the element of water. While most of Juvia’s attacks consist of using water in the form of sharp, piercing blades, she can also suffocate her opponents in an aquatic sphere, or drown them in an endless stream of water.
Juvia’s magic also grants her the ability to turn her body into water, making her immune to all physical attacks. The strength of Juvia’s Water Magic is also reflected by the profound effect of her emotional state on the weather, as it begins to rain whenever Juvia is consumed by melancholy.
