Now that Sydney Sweeney is joining to Sony’sSpider-ManUniverse inMadame Web, she’s making sure that she knows the character that she’ll be playing. TheEuphoriastar has even said that as preparation for her part, she’s been reading quite a few comic books about the story surrounding the Madame Web movie.
While it’s been reported that Sweeney isjoining Dakota Johnson in the Madame Web film, there isn’t a great deal of info about whom she will be playing in theSpider-Manspin-off. It’s reported that Johnson will be taking on the titular character, so that still leaves a very big mystery as to who Sweeney is going to be playing. While she’s still not spilling those beans, she is comfortable letting people know that she’s spent quite a bit of time prepping for shooting.

In a wide-ranging interview with Variety about where her career has taken her in recent years, she touched on her excitement forthe Madame Web movie, and what it has in store for fans. The still-untitled project sheds a bit of light on what fans can expect from the comic book character and the stories surrounding her. Sweeney seems to understand that fact when she was asked whether she’s been doing some reading. She answered that she has indeed been buying comics starring Madame Web as a way to understand the character more.
She added that she understands that even though she’s been a fan of Marvel and Spider-Man for quite a while, she feels as though “there’s a lot to learn.” She added that she grew up in that world and is quite excited to be able to join it, no matterwhat character in the Madame Web storyshe might be playing. “I’ve grown up watching them all, and I’ve been engulfed in the entire world my entire life, so being able to be a part of that is such an incredible, incredible thing,” she said.
Just who Sweeney will play is not the only thing that the production has kept under wraps. In fact, other than the fact that she and Johnson are attached, there hasn’t been a great deal of news about who else will appear. What is known is that S.J. Clarkson has beensigned on to direct the Spider-Man spin-off. Clarkson does have some background working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the director ofJessica Jones. She’s also worked on other notable projects such as Netflix’sOrange is the New Black. Now the director is bringing her talents to Sony for yet another Spider-Man adjacent project from the studio.
