Summary
Conan Exilesis a survival game where players need strong weapons and an even stronger wit to survive and thrive. Still, no amount of axes or swords can keep players safe without a study set of armor to protect their literal skin in the game.
Players can try toturtle up and build a strong basebut at some point, everyone has to venture out to gather supplies. The right armor can be the difference between coming home unscathed or with severe injuries and nothing for the player’s efforts.
Updated on July 22, 2025, by Jeff Drake:The great thing about the armor in Conan Exiles is how much flexibility it gives the player when putting together a new build. Much of the legendary armor grants a bonus to the wearer’s physical attributes. One thing to remember is that drop rates for legendary gear are low, so players may need to defeat the listed enemy or perform the listed action multiple times. Just because an item is labeled “Legendary” in this game, it doesn’t necessarily mean the item is superior. There are many non-legendary items that are better. These items are more for prestige than for practical purposes.
18War-Dancer Chest
Light Armor That Boosts Strength Damage
This piece of light armor is designed for a dancer. As a result, it doesn’t possess a high armor rating - dancing in heavy armor is not practical. Going to battle in dancer’s garb is also not very practical. Unless it’s the War-Dancer Chest. This piece of armor gives a modest amount of protection to the wearer; enough to make it an option.
The War-Dancer Chest increases Strength-Weapon damage by six percent. It also grants a small amount of cold and heat resistance, though, not enough on which to rely.
17Legacy Of Nordheimers
High Armor And Superior Cold Resistance
This large ornate helm provides the wearer with a healthy amount of cold resistance (15); among the legendary armors, only the Dragonscale Helm provides more. This helm also provides a significant boost to the wearer’s armor rating. There are entire suits of armor that don’t provide the armor rating of the Legacy of Nordheimers.
Players needing protection from cold should seek this helmet. It does provide a small amount of heat resistance as well, not enough to rely on, but some.
16Horned Helmet
A Helmet With Superior Durability
There really isn’t much to the Horned Helmet. It doesn’t come with any special ability, or have any cold or heat resistance. The only thing that would clue the player into the fact that this is a legendary piece of armor is its great armor rating and superior durability.
The Horned Helmet has a durability rating of 5,000. Considering the fact that legendary items cannot, as a rule, be repaired, high durability ensures the player will not have to replace this helmet anytime soon. The high armor rating is also a solid reason to equip this helmet. Lastly, it’s a horned helmet, which isabout as barbarianas it gets.
15Night Stalker
A Headdress That Enhances Night Vision
The Night Stalker armor consists of the Night Stalker Mask. There is much better headgear if players need help staying alive during fights. This mask doesn’t provide as much to a character’s armor rating as the other legendary headgear, but at least it doesn’t weigh much.
Nighttime inConan Exilesis dark; player visibility is, at best, 15 feet. Even with the brightness set to the maximum, it’s still hard to see. The Night Stalker Maskimproves the wearer’s night vision. In some games, like Fallout, having night vision completely negates the gloom of night. The night vision in Conan Exiles isn’t nearly as useful, but it does help.
14Godeye
A Lightweight Eyepatch That Increases Strength And Lowers Accuracy
The Godeye armor consists of an eye patch; yep, that’s it, an eye patch. Many players probably don’t think of an eye patch as a piece of armor. Those players aren’t entirely wrong with regard to the Godeye. This piece of headgear only grants the wearer 32 armor, but it’s also extremely light.
The +3 to strength is nice, but the Godeye also covers one of the character’s eyes. This blindness translates to a small (-2)penalty to accuracy. If accuracy isn’t a problem, but damage output and encumbrance are, then this might be a smart choice for headgear.
13Executioner’s Hood
A Light Hood That Provides More Protection Than Expected
Despite the appearance of a simple cloth hood, the Executioner’s Hood is actually a piece of heavy armor that provides the wearer with a generous 190 armor; which is comparable to the best pieces of legendary headgear. The heat and cold resistance granted by the Executioner’s Hood is minimal.
This piece of armor also has the advantage of being lighter than other pieces of armor with similar armor ratings. This helpskeep the player from being encumbered.
12Nemedian
Repairs The Wearer’s Weapon When They Are Struck
The Nemedian armor doesn’t provide any resistance or boosts to the wearer’s attributes; however, this helmet provides a powerful bonus that can be exploited. Every time the wearer is hit, the Nemedian loses one point of durability (maximum 1800). In exchange for this loss of durability, the weapon in the wearer’s right hand has six points of durability restored - basically, this helmetrepairs the wearer’s weaponwhen taking a hit.
When a thrall uses the Nemedian, hits do not lower the durability. Even though no durability is lost the wearer’s weapon is repaired. The player can force a thrall to use their weapon and the Nemedian, and then proceed to punch them for a quick and cost-free method of repairing a weapon.
11Brute
Legendary Helmet And Gauntlets That Increase Strength And Grit
The Brute gear is made of the Gauntlets of the Brute and Helm of the Brute. The helm grants the +3 to strength, and the gauntlets give the wearer a +3 grit. Any piece of armor thatgives the wearer a boost to strengthis useful. The boost to grit is even more useful; when a character runs out of stamina they are essentially prone to enemy attacks.
The Brute armor pieces also provide a small bit of heat and cold resistance. The increase in armor rating from the Brute armor pieces is about on par with other pieces of legendary armor.
10Khari Overseer
Slaver’s Gear That Improves Strength And Grit
The Khari is a terrible civilization of slavers, though if one also keeps slaves or thralls for themselves inConan Exiles, then they might need to turn down the hypocrisy and maybe embrace what they’ve become by taking after the Khari. The Khari Overseer armor set is the best way to label oneself in such a nasty endeavor.
While we don’t condone such digital methods, one can’t deny the protective appeal of the Khari Overseer armor. If players wear the complete set, they getsignificant amounts of strength and stamina.
9Khari Soldier
Armor That Greatly Improves Vitality
If being dressed as a slave-trade enforcer of the Khari is a deplorable thought, then perhaps dressing up as one of their soldiers might be more palatable. The Khari Soldier armor set in that regard might be the better option.
It’s perfect for players who want to make tanky characters due to thehigh amount of vitality the armor givesto its wearer. It also has a better helmet compared to the Overseer set, stylistically.
