The originalFinal Fantasy 7had one of the greatest collections of mini-games in the series such as the Chocobo racing, the Fort Condor RTS, and even that snowboarder game. Fans expecting a lot fromFinalFantasy 7 Remake’smini-game collection were probably let down because there wasn’t a lot initially beyond two motorcycle chases.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthis full of them though and many make a return from the original. Which ones do? How have they evolved? Are there any new ones? All of these questions and more will be answered, but fans may want to put their spoiler caps on.

8Cactuar Crush

Location: Corel Region

There are a lot of mini-games involving breaking objects like boxes or destroying enemies in a set amount of time. The best of these is called Cactuar Crush and it is part of the Gilgamesh side quest in the game. Yuffie will have a limited time to defeatas many Cactuarsas possible to get prizes and they all give specific bonuses once defeated. The music might be the best part of this mini-game which should help players get in the mood to slay these adorable cactus monsters. The final one of these segments holds a little surprise, but that won’t be spoiled here.

7Chocobo Racing

Location: Gold Saucer

Chocobo Racing returns to Gold Saucer albeit in a different fashion. In the original game, players could breed Chocobos for racing and for exploring the world. Also, in Chocobo Racing, players didn’t have much control over their big bird but it is much more intuitive inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Players can grab a bevy of power-ups in a race to help boost speed temporarily and to build up a meter for turbo power. There is even drifting like in inMario Kart 8,orChocobo GP.

6Fort Condor

Location: Junon Region

Fort Condor was a big mini-game in the original version of Final Fantasy 7 and it was included in the Yuffie DLC forFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. Instead of being an actual place, Fort Condor was a board game that still operated like an RTS game.

Players could choose from a wide variety of soldiers to take out oncoming enemies and their associated generators. It was a big part of that DLC andFort Condor returns in a smaller portion forFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthalso tied to the aforementioned Gilgamesh side quest.

4Playing Piano

Location: Most Towns Have A Piano

One of the biggest surprises from fans who played the demo was how intricate the piano was in Tifa’s room. Players spent hours on it, trying to recreate classic Final Fantasy tracks along with odd songs like “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes and uploading them onto YouTube or other social media platforms.

The nice thing about the piano is this freedom. It’s also tied to a side quest wherein players get to go throughFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth’smany piano songsin rhythm-based sequences. Hearing piano versions of songs like Tifa’s theme, especially if she is the player, is a soothing experience all fans can appreciate.

3Queen’s Blood

Location: Most Towns Have Several Players Waiting To Play

Queen’s Blood is the star ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthand one of the best mini-games in the franchise’s history. It’s a card game likeFinal Fantasy 9’sTetra Master or evenFinal Fantasy 8’sTriple Triad. Cards have spaces associated with them close to the arrow keys of Tetra Master.

The goal is to march down three lanes to get as many points as possible. It’s tied to an even bigger quest that has some definite Yu-Gi-Oh vibes to it as Queen’s Blood seems like it is much more than an average card game.

2Shinra Parade

Location: Junon

The parade section of Junon in the original game was hard to follow. There were buttons tied to commands but it was loose, making it harder to get the rewards. InFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the parade is a rhythm game set up like the Honey Bee section ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.

There is also a side quest involving Cloud having to reunite his squad to get the best team together for this section. Overall, the parade, outside of the mini-game, is a lot more involving for players.

1Shooting Galleries With Barret

There are several shooting galleries in the game such as Pirate’s Rampage which is located in Costa del Sol. While that is fun, the better shooting mini-games are limited to story segments in the game. For example, there are two shooting segments part of theCorel region arc ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

One will have Barret shoot boxes as players ride down a mine cart track while another will have him shoot Shinra soldiers in a chase scene in the desert. Of the two, the latter one is more exciting and has some hilarious Palmer and Elena moments of incompetence.
