Summary

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderandStar Wars Jedi: Survivorboth have a common element that adds to the challenge of playing these games, and that is that they’re both Soulslike games. Althoughsome Soulslike games can be easier than others, they still add an extra challenge by having the player lose all their unspent experience points if they are defeated by an enemy, which they can reclaim if they defeat said enemy, and this element has worked very well withStar Warsgames.

With the success ofFallen OrderandSurvivor, it seems like it might be an interesting change to move away from a Soulslike that focuses on a Jedi and focuses on a non-Jedi instead. A new Soulslike game could focus on an era withinStar Warsthat doesn’t get embraced that much by the gaming side ofStar Wars, and that era is the Clone Wars.

Why There Should be a Star Wars Soulslike Set in the Clone Wars

The Clone Wars Era Has Great Potential for a Soulslike Game

Fallen OrderandSurvivordid touch on elements of the Clone Wars, but it would be interesting to see a Soulslike game that fully embraces the period. Considering the number of Clone Troopers and battles in the Clone Wars, it seems it would make for quite an excitingsetting for aStar WarsSoulslike game.

Even though the Clone Wars only lasted around three years in theStar Warsgalaxy, it was a major event, with hundreds of battles and millions of Clones taking part alongside the Jedi Order. It would certainly be interesting for players to take part in several campaigns that took place in the Clone Wars while playing as one of the many Clone Troopers.

Star Wars Games Should Move Away From The Original Trilogy Era

Most recentStar Warsgames have all focused on the Original Trilogy, and although this focus makes sense, since the Original Trilogy is the most well-known, it would be nice for a newStar Warsgame to focus on a different era. The Clone Wars has lots to offer for a potential game. A Soulslike game set in the Clone Wars would be the perfectopportunity to have a Clone protagonist in aStar Warsgamethat shares some of the successful features ofFallen OrderandSurvivorwhile exploring untold moments of the Clone Wars.

How a Clone Wars Soulslike Could Work

Playing as a Nameless Clone Trooper

Clone Troopers often have names, but not all of them are known toStar Warsfans, and even the majority of background Clones' numbers aren’t known. This makes a perfect scenario for a Soulslike, where the player can play as a nameless Clone as they battle through the Clone Wars.

Perhaps a SoulslikeClone Warsgame could involve a feature where each time the player gets killed, the respawn involves taking control of another Clone Trooper. For example,if the nameless Clone is an Arc Trooper, then if said Arc Trooper dies, then the next Clone the player plays could get promoted to an Arc Trooper if they defeat the enemy that killed the last Trooper the player played as.

That could lead to a good action-driven game, but that may not work if the game was a heavy story-based game such asFallen OrderandSurvivor. Instead, the nameless Clone might not die, but instead wakes up at the last checkpoint without the unspent experience points and must defeat the last enemy that defeated them to regain it.

A Story From the Perspective of a Clone Commander

A story-heavy Soulslike could also create a new Clone battalion to work with. For example, instead of the player playing as the Jedi General, they would play as the Clone Commander or Captain of the battalion. Such characters were vital to the plots of certainstorylines inThe Clone Wars. Since the Clones were often at the forefront of a battle, they have a lot of potential for a good storyline in aStar Warsgame.
