The Flashdirector Andy Muschietti revealed if he plans to replace Ezra Miller in a sequel should he be involved. Muschietti’s response might surprise fans considering Miller’s legal woes.
The Flashmarks Miller’s first solo film in the DC movie franchise, but the actor’s future as the character has been questioned. Because of Miller’s recent legal issues, includingThe Flashstar’s plea dealfor a burglary charge, fans wonder if Warner Bros. will useThe Flash’s multiverse storyline to recast the Scarlet Speedster with a new actor for future sequels.

While James Gunn has confirmedThe Flashwill reboot the DC Extended Universe and pave the way for his new DC Universe projects, Gunn and DC Studios' co-CEO Peter Safran have been coy when asked aboutMiller’s future as The Flash. However, Andy Muschietti seemingly has definitive plans for Miller if he’s involved inThe Flashsequel. “If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Andy Muschietti toldThe Discourse Podcastwhen asked if Miller will star inThe Flashsequel. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them."
Barbara Muschietti, Andy Muschietti’s sister and a producer onThe Flash, echoed her brother’s sentiment by praising Miller’s work ethic. “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor],” said Barbara Muschietti. “Ezra gave everything for this role – physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.” Of course, it should be noted that aFlashsequel has not been announced yet.

However, not everyone can look past Miller’s alleged misconduct. WhileMiller announced they were seeking mental health treatmentafter reports of their behavior surfaced, some people believe there should be consequences for the actor’s alleged actions. WhileThe Flashwas finished filming when Miller’s legal woes surfaced and reshooting the film with a new lead actor was not financially feasible because of Miller’s substantial role, some fans believe playing The Flash again should not be in the cards for Miller.
The Flashwill be released in theaters on Aug 04, 2025.
