The Last of Us: Part 2is a melancholic game that balances its quietness with blood and violence. Ellie’s journey is captured throughThe Last of Us: Part 2’s Collectors Edition statue, but one fan’s modifications bring it even closer to embodying the game.
There are few games that received the same level of anticipation asThe Last of Us: Part2 did. TheoriginalThe Last of Usis often seen as one of the best games to have emerged from the seventh console generation, winning multiple Game of the Year awards in 2013, and introducing millions of gamers to the post-apocalyptic struggles of Joel and Ellie. WhileThe Last of Us: Part 2was met with critical acclaim, its story direction was divisive for fans, particularly in the way it handled character deaths and the trajectories of returning favorites. The Last of Us: Part 2launched with multiple editions, the Collector’s Edition featuring a statue of Ellie playing the guitar, and the largest one, the Ellie Edition, giving fans Ellie’s backpack.

One fan shared their edits toThe Last of Us: Part 2’s Ellie statue, and the results are breathtaking. The original statue is pretty detailed as is, showing a somber and somewhatbloody Ellie playing her guitaron a block of concrete, with some greenery at her feet, but Epictrailers921 decided to take these details one step further. Without sacrificing the integrity of the statue, Epictrailers921 adds more blood and grime throughout that further reflects the themes and imagery of the game. ThroughoutThe Last of Us: Part 2, Ellie is thrown from one perilous situation to another in her quest for vengeance. New hardware on thePS4 allowed for more visceral depictions of violenceand fidelity of environments, with blood in real time appearing on characters, and Seattle looking practically photo-realistic in its overgrowth of fungus. Many in the comments attest that Epictrailers921 improved on the original statue, it comparatively being quite clean and devoid of grit. Like the game though, Epictrailers921 also adds more detail to the natural surroundings, a reflection of the back and forth nature between the dark and light of humanity and nature.
Regardless of one’s thoughts on Ellie’s character arc inThe Last of Us: Part 2, this statue is a pretty neat piece ofThe Last of Usmerchandise. That said, it was a rather bold choice of Epictrailers921 to directly paint on the statue, considering how much it retails for now that the Collector’s Edition is out of print. At the cost of potentially ruining the piece, Epictrailers921 actually expanded the statue, giving it more depth and detail than it originally shipped with, and that is commendable. What’s more, their statue is now a one of a kind.
The Last of Us: Part 2is available on PS4.
