Summary
Assassin’s Creed Miragehas brought back all sorts of fan favorite features from the classic games, which has been great to see. One of these features comes in the form of the ability to pay groups of people to help distract the guards. Players can leverage the abilities of entertainers and mercenaries to get what they want while they can also earn all sorts of discounts from merchants. However, unlike with pastAssassin’s Creedgames,Assassin’s Creed Miragehas tied this to an entirely new Favor Token system.
In the past, players could just pay groups of people a small amount of currency to get what they want. InMirage, they must first earnFavor Tokensthat they can then spend to get the benefits of these groups. While that change may feel strange and annoying for some, other players may find it to be a great addition to the franchise, especially because its inclusion really helps add to the world ofAC Mirageconsiderably.

Mirage’s Favor Coins Are a Unique Spin on Classic AC Gameplay
Players may use Dirham to purchase things from vendors, but to gain the help of various groups they must collect Favor Tokens. These tokens come in three different forms: Scholar, Merchant, and Power Tokens. The Scholar Tokens are used to bribe entertainers to distract guards or can be given to scholars during quests, the Merchant Tokens can give players discounts at shops or be used to bribe people during some quests, and the Power Tokens are used to hire mercenaries, rebels, and guards to help sneak into places - or they can be used toreduce notoriety inAssassin’s Creed Mirage.
Each token can be incredibly useful, and they are not that hard to earn either. Players can gather them from either completing contracts or justpickpocketing people on Baghdad’s streets. While that may force players to interact with systems they may never have interacted with, they can also get through the game without spending a single token if they really want to. However, that approach may also be extremely difficult, so only the bravest of players will want to take that on.
The addition of these tokens feels like a massive change frompastAssassin’s Creedgamesthat some players may not enjoy. Instead of relying on Dirham, players must have tokens if they want to leverage the skills of these groups. This forces them to grind out these tokens, even if they are relatively easy to get. It also makes Dirham a bit useless unless players are buying items or saving up for something big. However, items are also pretty easy to find just by exploring the world, so they may have little use for Dirham.
At the same time, the addition of tokens really helps with worldbuilding. Now, it kind of feels like the Hidden Ones are operating much likethe characters inJohn Wick. This secret society has its own special currency that other groups will accept without any questions. Plus, it does give players a reason to finish contracts instead of just ignoring them entirely, and the merchant discounts can be useful sometimes.
Some series' veterans may find the favor tokens to be a massive change that they really did not want, but others may find it to be an interesting addition that should be carried over to future titles. It all really depends on just how attached players were to the old system as well as if they want to do contracts. Again, it is pretty easy to earn these tokens, but some players may also not want to go through the hassle, which is understandable after three expansive RPGs burnt out some of the fan base.
