EA and Maxis’s long-running social simulation seriesThe Simshas provided countless hours of entertainment to gamers over the years, but one player ofThe Sims 4discovered that it can also be a source of nightmare fuel thanks to a bizarre graphical glitch. Players of the popular title just received an injection of new content thanks to thelatestThe Sims 4update, which introduced new gameplay features and a slew of cosmetic items focused on inclusivity.

While the franchise is a worldwide hit today, many gamers were skeptical whenThe Simsmade its debut in the year 2000. Once described by creator and video game icon Will Wright as a sort of virtual doll house, many fans of Wright’s previous simulation games were unsure of what to think when it was announced that his next title would focus on managing the minutiae of the lives of the game’s digital denizens. Although initially met with confusion,The Simsfranchise quickly developed a devoted fan base drawn in by the game’s unique and often humorous gameplay. The franchise would go on to spawn numerous sequels and spin-offs over the years, with thecrossplay-enabledThe Sims 5set to refine the series yet again whenever it releases.

A new post on r/gaming shows that the cute and colorful world ofThe Sims 4can also play home to some truly unsettling sights, as exhibited by a screenshot of a horrifying graphical glitch with a character in the game. Shared by Reddit user lannes, the screenshot shows a female Sim with a wildly distorted face that gives the character a decidedly unsettling appearance. The result of a graphical bug, the unfortunate Sim has two eyes floating free from their sockets bunched together in the center of her forehead, with glitched textures giving other parts of her face a disturbingly angular appearance.

While adorable player-made characters like the recreation ofBoo fromMonsters Inc.inThe Sims 4have been met with praise by commenters on Reddit, the perplexingly proportioned face of this glitched Sim received a decidedly more humorous response. Several comments thought the glitched Sim bore a striking resemblance toStar Wars’ much-maligned Gungan goofball Jar Jar Binks, while another user thought it more closely resembled the Slurm Slug fromFuturama. Referencing one ofThe Simscreator Will Wright’s rare, high-profile gaming failures, other comments joked that they thought the screenshot was from an unannouncedSpore 2.

Encountering this unsettling glitch when loading upThe Sims 4could be enough to make some players decide to step away from the social simulation title to play something a bit less nightmare-inducing. At least players won’t have to worry about any similarly misshapenSims moving in slow motionanymore following a recent patch.

The Sims 4is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
