The Walking Dead: Destinieswill take players through the first four seasons of the show, revisiting iconic locations like the hospital, the camp, the prison, and Woodbury, but one way it deviates from the show is by asking players, “What If?” InThe Walking Dead: Destinies, players can make choices that change who lives and dies, who stays and who leaves, and so on and so forth. This is already a major change to the formula, but despite this, the group will move alongside the natural pace of the story. That doesn’t mean characters are the only real “change” found in the story, though.

Game Rant recently spoke toThe Walking Dead: Destiniesgame director at Flux Games Paulo Luis Santos, and one of the questions we asked was if there would be any brand new locations for the game. After all, if Shane leads the group instead of Rick, Shane might go different routes between the places than Rick for example. However, sticking to the show and faithfully adapting it was the guiding light for Flux Games, just with the presence of player choice. One thing that Flux Games does add is new walkers, though.

TWD Destinies stress

When it comes tozombies inCall of Duty, The Walking Dead, or any piece of pop culture, fans are familiar with the general idea of walkers, runners, bloaters, and so forth. Many of these appear inThe Walking Deadin some form, but to ensure variety in gameplay, Flux Games adds some new Walkers to the mix. When talking about any possible changes made to TWD: Destinies, Santos said,

One good example is that we came up with some cool new Walkers, each one behaving in a unique way, that we created exclusively for the game to add some nice changes of pace to the game’s combat.

Fans will just have to wait and see what these new Walker types are and how they mix up thegameplay ofThe Walking Dead: Destinies, but it’s clear how dedicated to the show this title is. When setting out to make the game and even considering what kind of content it should include, the dev team found themselves feeling somewhat nostalgic and surprised when they realizedThe Walking Dead: Season 1came out 13 years ago. This is what led to the choice of maintaining the richTWDuniverse as much as possible, with Santos saying, “We decided to go on a route that really brings back the events of the show and gets every player up to speed on those iconic early seasons. This means we mostly stuck with what the show gave us, while adding some minor elements to make things interesting.”

While those other minor elements remain to be seen, it’s not likely to detract from fans' love of the show or the events ofThe Walking Dead: Destinies. In the latter, they get to relive what made the earliest days of the shows so great, all while asking “What if this happened inThe Walking Dead?” instead.

The Walking Dead: Destiniesis set to release on November 14 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
