However, the vastness of its narrative and the many ways it entwines with gameplay can feel overwhelming for newer players who don’t know how everything interacts. For those just starting out, knowing a few things going in can go a long way in hitting the ground running.

10It Can Be Played Multiplayer

It’s not hard to see thatWildermythholds a lot of appeal to fans ofDungeons & Dragonsand other tabletop role-playing games, and sometimes single-player just doesn’t cut it for players who want to capture that feeling of cooperating with a party. Luckily,Wildermythtakes care of this with bothonline multiplayer and Remote Play support on Steam.

Both new and pre-existing campaign files can be opened up to multiplayer at any time. If both players are playing on their own copies of the game, characters can be added to both players’ legacies at the end of the campaign.

9Players Can Customize The Difficulty

Wildermythhas great settings when it comes to customizing its gameplay experience for players by separating difficulty into two categories: Combat and Overland Campaign difficulty. Combat difficulty will affect the game purely on the battlefield when the party is in combat, while Overland difficulty affects things like calamities, enemy decks, and how frequently incursions occur.

If players find a specific aspect of gameplay easy while another is too challenging or frustrating, they can change the difficulty for each category at any time through the Options menu. This allows them to customize the game to fit their preferred playstyle.

8Every Choice Affects Gameplay

It’s easy to overlook at first just how much complexity goes into every character, skill, and item in this game. The truth is, every character has an array of stats that affect everything fromhow they behave in combatto how they interact with their party members. All of these things get subtly altered by the choices made during gameplay.

Some of these choices are more obvious, such as deciding whether a character will die or retreat when their health depletes. However, others are more subtle. A conversation between characters can be the difference between the party doing more damage or having extra health in their next battle.

7Heroes Will Be Played More Than Once

After completing the first campaign, all heroes from that adventure will be added to the player’s legacy, where they can be recruited into future campaigns. Doing so costs more legacy points than creating a new adventurer, but players who choose to do so are rewarded with higher skills and better items than a fresh recruit would have brought to the table.

The amount of experience and quality of equipment the legacy hero brings will vary depending on their legacy tier, making them a good investment to keep heroic parties ready for anything.

6Legacy Heroes Get Stronger The More They’re Played

Any character who survives to the end of the campaign can have their legacy tier upgraded, so long as their level equals or surpasses the tier they’re being upgraded to. The higher the legacy tier a character has reached, the better their weapons and armorwill be when they get recruited, and the more skills the player can carry over from their previous campaign.

This can transform a party’s structure and what they’re capable of; thus, beneficial for players to consider which heroes they want to invest time into upgrading.

5Legacy Heroes Only Keep Changes If Upgraded

If players find a new pet, artifact weapon, or cool new scar for their adventurer they can show off, they should make sure to upgrade them at the end of the campaign if they want the legacy hero to keep those changes. Otherwise, the only version the legacy will record will be the one that was initially added. This means if a legacy hero dies early on, it won’t undo their achievements from their previous campaign.

However, this also makes it harder for players who want a more dynamic experience with their legacy heroes. When faced with a choice between upgrading a new hero or a legacy one after a campaign, players should pick the legacy hero if there are changes they want to preserve.

4Extra Legacy Points Let You Upgrade More Than One Hero

This is something many new players will not notice until they’re at least one or two campaigns into the game, as there isn’t any explanation about this mechanic ahead of time. However, if a party ends a campaign with many leftover legacy points, they’ll be able to upgrade one extra character to a higher legacy tier for every ten extra points they have.

This will become a vital mechanic for players trying to beef up their legacy adventurers withoutplaying many campaigns over and over again (not that it wouldn’t be fun).

3Every Final Fight Allows A Chance To Prepare

It can be nerve-wracking going into the last fight of a campaign, especially if it’s the very first campaign. However, every final battle will first take players to a screen that allows them to upgrade their party’s gear first.

As long as the party has ample resources (as well as legacy points for when resources are short), this is an integral part ofentering the final fight prepared. It becomes even more essential on harder campaigns, where running around trying to upgrade and prepare in the Overworld can waste precious time as incursions and calamities become a larger threat.

2Characters' Relationships Affect Combat

In addition to shaping the story and how characters speak to each other, there’s more toWildermythrelationships than just flavor text. The three categories — Friendship, Romance, and Rivalry — all have their own bonuses that shape how they will behave in combat.

Heroes who are friends are more likely to block while walling with each other. Rivals are more likely to succeed in a stunt against an enemy that their rival has stunted against, and finally, lovers do more damage to enemies that have hurt their love interests. Players will have some control over which types of relationships characters have, but not always, so choose wisely and adapt accordingly.

1The More Players Explore, The More They’re Rewarded

Wildermythplayers will come across plenty of story hooks and events while exploring, or encounter extra issues in the world as they help towns and fight off enemies. Some of these may result in combat, a character being separated from the party for a while, acquiring new scars, or, occasionally, starting a transformation.

The best advice any new player can take is tobe active and engage with the worldto see what it gives in return. If a player is too cautious or ignores side missions as they come up, they may find themselves missing out on items and buffs that could transform the gameplay and story for the better.
