In light of the fans loving to see Tobey Maguire return asSpider-Manall these years later, it appears that Maguire himself would also like to resume playing Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: No Way Homewas one of the biggest success stories Marvel Studios had sinceAvengers; Endgameand in the history of Marvel movies period, withMaguire’s return as his iteration of Spider-Manbeing one of the driving forces behind that. In a recent interview, Maguire admitted that because he loves the Spider-Man film franchise and how they intertwine, he would like to return for another installment as the webhead if asked.

In an interview withMarvel, Maguire admitted that he would like to return to play his version of Spider-Man again. “I love these films, and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, “Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?” or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’, it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?” Should Maguire return for another installment, the element of surprise would be gone seeing how Marvel Studios tried to hide his and Andrew Garfield’s return as their versions of Spider-Man before their appearances inSpider-Man: No Way Homecame to fruition.
The originalSpider-Mantrilogy with Maguire is highly regarded today for playing a part in revolutionizing the superhero movie genre. While the trilogy didn’t end on the best note withSpider-Man 3, Maguire’s performance as Spider-Man is so highly regarded by fans to this day that they were excited to see the original cinematic Spider-Man come back again, knowing how long it’s been. Even better, his role in the movie was more than a simple fanservice cameo. He played a role in what happens in the film’s climax and left it open so that he could come back in another movie.
While it would be awesome to seeMaguire again as Spider-Manfor a future installment, Marvel has to be careful with how they do this should they decide to keep him around. The shock is gone, and the nostalgia element will only last for so long. If they’re going to do this, they have to utilize it the best they can because fans are smart enough to recognize when franchises bring previous characters back as a ploy and nothing else. If Maguire is involved shortly, he should have a legitimate role from here on out.
So here’s a proposal: resume the RaimiSpider-Mantrilogy. While it was awesome to see Maguire back and give some updates on where he is with his universe, that movie series is revered enough that fans want to see what happened with his Mary Jane, Aunt May, and of course, J. Jonah Jamison. Marvel Studios is struggling to keep its fanbase alive because they’ve lost many oftheir A players in the MCU’s Phase 4. Resuming Maguire’s story, or better yet, maybe the MCU doing their own Spider-verse could restore interest from the fans.Spider-Man: No Way Homehit a home run for Marvel Studios critically and commercially in the same wayThe Avengersdid in 2012. It’s at a point now where Marvel Studios is looking for any avenue to get themselves back on track. Why not expand further on something the fans would want to see?
