Quentin Tarantino’sKill Bill: Vol.1and its 2004 sequel are some of the most beloved films in history. While fans everywhere have been dreaming about a third installment, star Uma Thurman recently revealed thatKill Bill 3won’t likely be happening, at least for now.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1was released in 2003 and follows Thurman’s the Bride as she seeks revenge on the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, a team of highly-skilled assassins who tried to kill her and her unborn child. The sequel continues the Bride’s quest for vengeance, this time against the group’s leader and her former lover, Bill, as well as two of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad’s remaining members.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’sThe Jess Cagle Show, Thurman addressed the longstanding rumors about a possibleKill Bill Volume 3being made. Thurman admitted that “there was real thought about it happening,” though discussions ultimately lead nowhere. “I don’t see it as immediately on the horizon,” she stated. “I hate to disappoint people. Everybody wishes it would be the case, but I think it’s not immediately on the horizon.”
Although Thurman closed the door to thepossibility of a newKill Billfilm, Tarantino previously expressed his interest in seeing the Bride make one last appearance. The director even outlined a vague plot that would see Vernita Green’s daughter Nikki exact revenge against Thurman’s character for killing her mother. The Bride’s child, B.B, would also become an efficient killing machine under the diligent training of her mom, and fans could see how the subject of vengeance affected these kids, which is in line with the saga’s eye-for-an-eye theme.
Other people who worked on the saga also expressed their desire for a third installment, including Vivica A. Fox, who starred in the films as Vernita Green. The actresssuggested Zendaya for the role of her daughter, explaining that theSpider-Manalum would add a new layer of action to the project and hoped that her recommendation would help kickstartKill Bill 3. Zendaya, for her part, said that she was honored that Fox would think of her, but didn’t see the project coming together anytime soon.
WhetherVolume 3will happen or not,Tarantino has confirmed that his next filmwill be his last. Last year, the filmmaker appeared onReal Time with Bill Maherand announced that he plans on retiring after his tenth film, adding that he believes directors should quit at the height of their career. The last film Tarantino directed was 2019’sOnce Upon A Time… In Hollywood, though he’s since been busy with other endeavors, including a novel based on that same film and an upcoming book about New Hollywood era-movies.
