A fan has released a custom creation forSpider-Man Remastered, showing the famous web-slinger if he merged withMy Hero Academiaprotagonist Deku. Modder AngelModz calls the concept character “Spider Deku,” and plans to create more variants in the future, including a damaged version for when times get tough.

Spider-Man Remasteredinitially released in 2018 to critical and fan acclaim, a welcome surprise after over a decade of mediocre attempts at the property. The game was praised for its classic Spider-Man story, with the best use of the hero’s rogues gallery the franchise has seen to date. Though this Peter Parker has his own unique spider-suit, the game features many others that can be unlocked through gameplay or by purchasing DLC.

The official screenshot released by the modder shows off Spider Deku in action. The costume is a brilliant hybrid between the two characters, keepingSpider-Man’s iconic maskand chest design intact while taking costume elements from Deku. It looksextremelycohesive, and honestly if one had never heard ofMy Hero Academiaor Deku, it could easily pass for another official variant of Spider-Man.

Mods such as this are completely cosmetic, and don’t affect the gameplay in any way. They’re completely free, too, as opposed to some of the suits in the game that are locked behind DLC. As modding has become more mainstream, mods have become much easier to install for the average user. That means that even for players who aren’t the most tech-savvy, the only barrier to entry to mods such as Spider Deku is owning a PC that can runSpider-Man Remasteredat a decent frame-rate. Unfortunately as with many games, mods aren’t available on the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, so one is restricted to PC if it’s something one wants to explore.

TheSpider-Man Remasteredmodding scenehas been extremely active since the game was ported to PC in late-2022. Fans have always been drawn towards different variants and suits of Spider-Man, resulting in the popularity of movies such asSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Though developer Insomniac Games included plenty of spider-suits to keep fans satisfied, for some it wasn’t enough. We’re now seeing a bustling modding scene for the game, with many wacky costumes becoming available to players. It remains to be seen how many costumes will be included for players in Insomniac’s 2023 sequel,Spider-Man 2, though players will be hoping it’s the most extensive selection ever seen in a Spidey game.

Spider-Man Remasteredis currently available on PC and PS5.
