Action RPGFlintlock: The Siege of Dawnfeatures all the hallmarks of an epic, open-world RPG: warring armies, divine conflicts, dangerous boss domains, and, perhaps most importantly, cozy coffee shops. Indeed, players can visitFlintlock: The Siege of Dawn’smany coffee shops (which feature hot Turkish coffee) to learn rumors, unlock side quests and challenges, meet a variety of characters, and play a couple of rounds of Sebo.
Daniel Baider, the lead narrative designer ofFlintlock: The Siege of Dawn, spoke with Game Rant about the team’s decision to include coffee shops as the “centerpieces” of the game’s settlements, as well as the many things players can do in these hub areas. These include side quests, challenges, bonding with certain characters, and Sebo, amini-gameplayed using special coins. He did confirm that delicious coffee, specifically Turkish-style, is canon to theFlintlockworld.

Coffee Shops Are a Center of Culture and Community
While researching forFlintlock: The Siege of Dawn,A44 Games discovered “Turkish hot sand coffee.” The name comes from the fact that the coffee is brewed using a pan of sand over an open flame, a technique that allows brewers to carefully control the amount of heat used. Inspired by their growing love for the beverage,Flintlock’steam chose to make coffee shops a major location in the game:
“[We] used coffee shops in general as places of congregation around this great drink (which Wellington does extremely well too!) to be the centerpiece of our Hamlets. Areas where war and petty bickering are put to the side—unless, of course, it’s over a game of Sebo.”

Players Can Do Many Things in Flintlock’s Coffee Shops
InFlintlock: The Siege of Dawn’scoffee shops, Nor can play Sebo, a mini-game that has been compared toThe Witcher’sGwentor Orlog fromAssassin’s Creed Valhalla.Sebo involves forming coins into triangles, and a number of key characters, including Nor’s father figure Baz, are avid devotees of the game. She will be able to find many different opponents in the hub areas throughout the world of Kian.
While visiting coffee shops, Nor can also pick up several side quests via investigating rumors. Baider said that the side quests as “offer up very unique rewards to give the player an edge over potential new foes.” Triggering side quests in coffee shops involves interacting with Hosts—ancient Dead who serve as community elders and are a major source of gossip and rumors.
Coffee shops will also play a key role in “Fashion Souls,” a popular element of Soulslike games in which players can wear and display a variety of stylish and unique outfits. Many of these outfits can be purchased in coffee shops, although others will be discovered by Nor and Enki as they explore the world and take down enemies and bosses. The “Fashion Souls” outfits players can buy in coffee shops can be modeled and shared with other players viaFlintlock’sin-game photo mode.
