A studio primarily known for its family-friendly releases likeToy Story 3, theCarsgames, andDisney Infinity, Avalanche Software was not the immediately obvious choice for the developer tasked with creating the veryfirst fully-fledgedHarry Potteropen-world RPG, but against all odds, the studio pulled it off. While it may not quite have offered the full Hogwarts school experience that some fans were hoping it would,Hogwarts Legacydid end up being a pretty great action-RPG set in the Wizarding World, with tons of fan-service and engaging content for fans to dive head-first into.
Though its main story was a little lacking,Hogwarts Legacy’s greatest charm came from the ability to just explore Hogwarts Castle itself, and discover all the secrets it held. But aside from its nostalgic exploration,Hogwarts Legacy’s other best component was its surprisingly tough but satisfying and weighty combat. Split into a few distinct categories, and all color-coded for ease,Hogwarts Legacy’s spellsflowed well in combat, and gave fans plenty of options to experiment. And whileHogwarts Legacy’s base game has a solid roster of 34 spells, it could always use a few more, and there’s one PC mod that does exactly that.

Hogwarts Legacy Fans Need to Check Out the Spell Master Mod
One of the biggest benefits of owning a modern game on the PC platform is the ability to access countless mods, all created by incredibly talented fans, and often delivering experiences that just aren’t possible in the base game. WithHogwarts Legacybeing out for a good few months now, it’s only natural that there are a ton of great mods already available for the game, and one of the best is titled Spell Master 3.0.
Created by dvcons,Hogwarts Legacy’s Spell Master 3.0 modadds a total of six new spells to the game, each one offering a much more powerful version of a base game spell. The first spell unlocked with this mod is Pestis Incendium, a spell that grants players an even more powerful version of the Incendio attack. This spell is unique in that it boasts two different variations, with the first casting a tornado of flames upon the enemy, and the second causing the enemy to burst into flames, launching fireballs in multiple directions.
One ofthe most effective spells inHogwarts Legacy’s base gamewas Diffindo, the severing charm, and the Spell Master mod is here to make it even better. Named Diffindo Maxima, this new spell is an improved version of Diffindo, with a much wider range, faster projectile speed, and increased damage. When an enemy is frozen with Glacius, this spell will also result in them shattering into a burst of fine crystals. Rather than being restricted to just the parry mechanic, Spell Master adds Stupefy as a fully castable spell during combat, giving players a spell that completely bypasses any shields. Along similar lines, Spell Master also adds Petrificus Totalus as a castable spell, delivering the same effect as its stealth attack version but from a much longer range.
The final two spells added with the Spell MasterHogwarts Legacymod are potentially its most creative. With Obliviate, players will be able to trick enemies into returning to their usual unalarmed, peaceful NPC cycle, which is great for stealth missions. And with Confundo, players will be able to trick enemies into firing upon their allies, like a much faster version ofthe Imperio curse. On the whole, the Spell Master mod forHogwarts Legacyis a great add-on for any fan still playing that wants some more diverse spells to add to their repertoire.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a Switch release scheduled for November 14th, 2023.
