World of Warcraftrecently announced the Dracthyr’s Soar racial ability will now benefit from unlocks from the Dragonriding Skill Track while on the Dragon Isles. This will allow Dracthyr to fly faster, long, and more frequently than they could before in theWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightbeta.
The Dracthyr’s Soar ability allows them to use a simplified version of the new Dragonriding mechanic fromDragonflighton a long cooldown. This lets them access the new flying system in any part of the world, but without the Vigor or Dragonriding skills the full system uses. During theDragonflightbeta,World of Warcraftcut the maximum flight speed of the Dracthyrto a third of the normal Dragonriding speed.

However, this recent change reverses some of these changes, letting Dracthyr to soar to greater heightswhile on the Dragon Isles inDragonflight. Players who collect the Dragonriding glyphs to unlock the Dragonriding Skill Track will gain several boons for their Dracthyr’s Soar as well. The track increases the fly speed of Dracthyr to that of normal Dragonriding, and allows them to catch updrafts like a normal Drake mount. Several skills also reduce the cooldown of Soar down to one minute in conjunction with the Familiar Skies racial trait.
It is important to note these incredible changes will currently only be active on the Dragon Isles. Dracthyr using Soar to traverse old world locations will still use the un-modified cooldown and speed as it was before. This is presumably for fairness, as non-Dracthyr characters cannot currently use Dragonriding outsidethe newWorld of Warcraftareas.
World of Warcraftplayers are excited to give the new Dracthyr Soar buffs a try. Mostplayers who have had access to theDragonflightbeta agree that Dragonriding is one of the most fun parts of the new expansion. Upgrading one’s Dragonriding skill previously made the Dracthyr Soar ability obsolete, so hopefully these buffs will make those players more inclined to use it.
Most players hopeWorld of Warcraftwill eventually allow Dracthyrto benefit from the Dragonriding Skill Track outside the Dragon Isles. Such a thing will probably not happen unless Dragonriding becomes an evergreen system afterDragonflight. With such positive feedback about the system,World of Warcrafthas expressed interest in doing so, though it hasn’t confirmed anything yet. With luck, Dracthyr players will be able to Soar to their hearts content ifWorld of Warcrafteventually brings Dragonriding beyond the Dragon Isles.
World of Warcraftis available on PC.Dragonflightlaunches on November 28.
