Summary

World of Warcraftrecently added dialogue toThe War Withinbeta, explaining that Vereesa Windrunner is not present in Dalaran because she moved away at some point. While this new dialogue was not satisfying for some fans, it does answer why the majorWorld of Warcraftcharacter hasn’t shown up in the expansion yet.

In the opening sequences ofThe War Within, the iconicWorld of Warcraftmage city of Dalaran is destroyed by Xal’atath. However, during theWar Withinalpha, players noticed the conspicuous absence of Vereesa Windrunner. As the leader of the Dalaranian High Elven Silver Covenant faction, and the younger sister of Alleria – one of the main characters of the expansion – fans were confused as to why Vereesa had not been mentioned at all.

Now, it seems likeWorld of Warcrafthas given an answer to Vereesa’s fate. During the campaign inThe War Within’s Hallowfall zone, players can now ask Alleria if Vereesa is safe after the destruction of Dalaran. Alleria explains that Vereesa apparently moved out of Dalaran “a few years ago,” answering why she isn’t in the expansion. This line, captured in its entirety by Wowhead, is new to the beta and was seemingly added in response to fan concern over her absence.

Who is Vereesa Windrunner in World of Warcraft?

This new line of dialogue does not explain where Vereesa is now nor why she moved in the first place. Giramar and Galadin, her twin sons with her late husband and former Dalaran leader Rhonin, are likewise unmentioned, even though they should be full-grown adultsafterWoW: Dragonflight’s timeskip.

Player: “Is Vereesa safe?”

Alleria: “She’s safe, thank the stars. She moved away from Dalaran a few years ago. I stop by when I am able to but my work keeps me busy. Much as I love my sister, she is the least of the things I need to worry about at the moment.”

Needless to say,World of Warcraftfans aren’t satisfied by this new explanation. It technically answers why Vereesa isn’t present to help Dalaran and Alleria, but many see it as an excuse for whyWoWdidn’t use her in the expansion. Vereesa still ostensibly leads the Silver Covenant, so given the faction is in peril, it seems odd that she would not rush to their aid after the destruction of her old home, even if she did move away. Nevertheless, it seems like Vereesa isn’t going to be playing a part in the first chapters ofThe War Within, so players will have to wait and see if the youngest Windrunner sister appears later on – perhaps in the elf-centricMidnightexpansion in the second part ofWoW’s Worldsoul Saga.
